In the book "Walk Two Moons" by Sharon Creech what happened that caused Sal to think of the poems that way?

The poem Mr. Birkway read (The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls) reminded Salamanca of death. But my main question is what event happened in her life that has caused her to think of death when she heard the poem? Also what was her response to the poem "The Horse is NewlY"? What happened in her life to make gher think like that about that poem?

In the book "Walk Two Moons" by Sharon Creech what happened that caused Sal to think of the poems that way?
Her mother's death impacted Sal's life tremendously. It changed her view of life and therefore everything in it, including poetry. Sal thought of death when she heard the poem in class because she had a pessimistic view of the world at that time.

Sal related to the poem "The Horse is NewlY" because she felt like she was feeling everything for the first time again since her mother's death. That's why her response was so powerful, she felt like she truly WAS the NewlY born horse.

Hope this helped:-)
