I don't really fully understand the ending to Silent Hill.?

Ok, at the end why are Sharon and Rose still in silent hill and not at there actuall home. I've been reading about it on imdb and what i gather from it is that when sharon opened her eyes when that dark alessa girl was there that when they locked there eyes that her and alessa became joined as one like alessa went inside of sharon and then when they think there going home but alessa wants to stay in her own world with sharon's mom and doesnt let them leave. ok, so then that would mean that rose has do idea that she was actually with alessa not sharon, So i was wondering if this is true at all, cause i really have no clue and if this is true then it would make much more sense. so yeah if this isnt true then can you explain the ending to me so i can understand it.

I don't really fully understand the ending to Silent Hill.?
As a veteran IMDb member of the Silent Hill board, here's my interpretation:

Contrary to popular belief, no, Rose and "Sharon" are *not* dead. Rose and her husband weren't able to see each other because they're still in Alessa's alternate dimension while her husband is in the real world. Here's the deal...

There are three parts of Alessa:

- Alessa (the burned girl in the oxygen tent)

- Sharon (Alessa's good side)

- Dark Alessa (Alessa's evil side)

Sharon and Dark Alessa are basically manifestations of the two sides of Alessa - the good side and the evil side. As for how Alessa created these manifestations and the alternate dimensions, it can only be assumed that she possessed some kind of supernatural power (which in addition to the fact that she had no father, would obviously lead everyone associated with the cult to call her a witch). That being the case, this is what happened:

1) Dark Alessa does not, in fact, take over or possess Sharon at the church. Dark Alessa (the evil side) simply recombines with Sharon (the good side), creating a new and complete "reincarnation" of Alessa.

2) Alessa's "pact" with her evil counterpart that we saw in the flashback not only ensures that Dark Alessa will help her exact her revenge, but that Alessa, after making herself "whole" again, will also have a second chance at life with a new (and surely in her eyes, better) mother: Rose.

3) And as for the ending:

Alessa's plan works - she gets her much deserved revenge on the cultists, Dark Alessa and Sharon recombine and create a newly "reborn" Alessa, and she ends up with Rose (who either isn't aware or just doesn't care that this little girl isn't "her Sharon" anymore) as her new mother. Now with Sharon's memories of the outside world to work with after reuniting her two halves, Alessa can extend her alternate dimension and create a world just like the one Sharon and Rose lived in, where they can stay forever. In other words, Alessa doesn't want them to leave her alternate dimension and in her eyes, for good reason. The real world is where Alessa was hurt, abused and humiliated. In the real world, she felt unsafe, unloved and that the people are untrustworthy (especially men, considering that the absence of her father - assuming he even existed - was the source of her torment, in addition to her horrific experience with the school janitor). Alessa wants to live out the rest of her new life with her new loving mommy in her alternate dimension, where she's in control and she feels safe. However, this is also how Dahlia's warning to Rose, "Be careful what you choose," comes to pass. Unfortunately for Rose, this end result means that she is essentially trapped in Alessa's alternate dimension indefinitely.

Hope this helps. :)
Reply:No problem - glad I could help. Thanks for the 10 pts.! :) Report It

Reply:i just figured it was because they were dead all along, maybe they both died in the car crash, thats why when they made it home her husband couldn't see them but the door opened, because they are ghosts.
Reply:actually you need to play the first game only. maybe Silent Hill: Origins, but you really only need to play the original Silent Hill. the only thing Silent Hill 2 has to do with the movie is a few monsters. other than that, Silent Hill 2 has NOTHING to do with the movie. I'll copy and paste the rest of my answer from other questions I've answered on this exact same question. call me lazy...

NO ONE DIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the only person out of Rose, Sharon and Cybil that died is Cybil when they burned her for helping Rose. when Alessa attacks at the end, all those people die. but initially NO ONE is dead.

play the games, you'll get it.

1. the reason Rose took Sharon to Silent Hill was explained in the movie. Sharon would sleepwalk and cry out the name Silent Hill, and Rose took her there to find out if there was anything about Sharon's past located there. Sharon was adopted from West Virginia and Silent Hill is in West Virginia. she wanted find out why she calls out for Silent Hill.

2. NO ONE DIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the only person out of Rose, Sharon and Cybil that died is Cybil when they burned her for helping Rose. when Alessa attacks at the end, all those people die. but initially NO ONE is dead.

3. her name is ALESSA and they were TRYING to burn her alive for supposedly being a witch. I guess being born out of wedlock makes a person a witch in their town. she's connected to Sharon by the fact that Sharon IS Alessa. and they did NOT kill Alessa. as you saw in the movie, she was rescued by the police officer and taken to the hospital where she did NOT die.

4. Alessa did NOT mother Sharon. she is the goodness that was left of Alessa. she is NOT Alessa's "child". she is a manifestation of Alessa's goodness in child form. this was also explained in the movie.

you really should play the games (Silent Hill: Origins, Silent Hill, and Silent Hill 3) in order to really understand the movie. the movie itself was based mainly on the original Silent Hill game for the PlayStation 1 with elements taken from the second game, Silent Hill 2 (armless Patient Demon, Pyramid Head) which has nothing to do with Origins, 1 or 3. theories surrounding the second movie installment speculate that it will be based on the 3rd game, showing a grown up "Sharon" (in the first game her name was Cheryl and changed to Heather in the third) finding out who she really is...Alessa Gillespie.

another note, in the original game, Dahlia wasn't Alessa's mother, she was her "creator". take a look at the links below find out all about the Silent Hill games that fit together to make up this story.

I know some of it got repeated, but I think it helps make that point clear.
