Question for anybody who's seen the movie "Silent Hill" and actually remembers what happens?

I only saw about the last half of it but i found it to be a crazy good movie...only, i didn't get the end. It totally went over my head. What exactly happened to Rose (the mom) and Sharon (her daughter)? Why was it that when it showed them, it was all greyish, but with the dad it was colorful, not to mention that apparantly they weren't really there next to him?

Did they die? Did Rose make some kind of deal with the Darkness or something? Did it have to do with Sharon looking at the little girl when her mom had specifically told her not to open her eyes?

How is it that the last woman in the church (mother of Eselie, if that's how you spell it) could see and talk to them, but then when it got to the dad and all, everything changed?

I am very lost.

If someone would oh so kindly explain this to me...thanks.

mother and daughter not so much dead. trapped in the in-between like the townspeople. now the townspeople are in fact dead. trapped in limbo. silent hill was in the in between life/death. little girl was the key to the little girl who was burnt because she was her birth mother. and the devil like- little girl character was the embodiment of of the burnt little girls anger. game was written by japanese programmers. so its got that whole eastern theology edge to it. no not dead. no bodies were found when they supposedly crashed so how are they dead? no lady cop body! no mother/daughter body! rip in reality type of stuff due to the anger and death of lil burned girl.
Reply:they're all dead but the dad.
Reply:theyre dead.

like they guy ^ said they are technically trapped in pergatory but if u aint alive, YOURE DEAD.

so was every body in that town. thas why the dad and the male cop never see anybody in town. everybodys dead.

i figure they all die in the crash....oh nevermind u didnt see the beginning...
Reply:It is supposed to be about how men can "stay in reality" and women tend to lean toward the "fantasy" world. When the mom and daughter got back to the house, they were still in the "fantasy" world, and the dad was in the "real" world.
