At the end of the movie the mom and daugher are able to leave silent hill. What girl left with her. When Sharons 's mother came from hell and started tearing people apart with the barb wire Evil Alyssa climbed the ladder to Sharron. Sharons mom was holding her and told her and told her not to look not to look. She had her hand over her eyes but left one eye uncovered, Dark Alyssa looked into Sharons eyes and Sharon passed out. The next thing you know they are leving. We all know there in a seperate world, but could dark alyssa have possessed sharaon and left with rose. At the end of the movie when you look into her eyes they look diffrent, also when they came home she slowly rubbed her hand on the furnature but did not have sharons innocent look. Could this be what the second movie is based on?
Who is the little girl at the end of silent hill Sharon or Alyssa?
The dark part of Alyssa became a part of Sharon who was, as Alyssa explains, the only "good" part of her left. So, if you want to put it one way you could say that Sharon is her own body and mind along with the spirit of good Alyssa and bad Alyssa. It's a little deep, I know, but that's really the only way I can think to explain it.
Reply:Dark Alyssa merged into Sharon like she was with burned Alyssa. She did it so she could leave, it was like she was bound to Silent Hill with burned Alyssa but after all the church folk that toasted her were done away with, dark Alyssa needed another "host".
Reply:the mom i do not know what her name was

X FACTOR - Should Simon Just Tell Sharon To 'Push Off' Now.......Greedy Mare !!!?
I know...but only ordinary people (I was going to say poor) like us would think of it as greedy.
In Sharon's world, that's like us asking for £50 rise.
It's probably all agreed already...They just want us to start hating her to give the coming show some 'hype'

Catherine zeta jones vs sharon stone?
they are both sexy and gorgeous but in my opinion czj is an other thing, she i classy, sexy, gorgeous, killer smile ,rose lips and those eyes.
i love sharon too.
Catherine zeta jones vs sharon stone?
After I saw Sharon Stone's lopsided boobies in Basic Instinct 2, I can never feel the same about her. I like Zeta Jones better even though she isn't aging to nicely!!
Reply:I am with you CZJ is a great persona nd has a rocking body.....SS just does not do it for me
Reply:Catherine Zeta Jones is a modern day goddess. She has striking and stunning facial features, a great body, and a classy, elegant, and sophicated. Sharon Stone is a better actress but her time has passed.

Sharon Stone, on the other hand, is a gold-digging home-wrecker who doesn't care WHOSE toes she steps on to get where she wants to go. Her "talent" is all about having blonde hair and seductive ways. She's just the kind of man-stealing wench that other women HATE!!!!

for years.
I suspect Ms. Stone can dance, but not
professionally.
Reply:Stone is creepy sometimes. Jones is classy.

I think Sharon Stone has a much funkier killer instinct - nasty little eyes - I'd bet on her in a closed ring event over CZJ and I'll spot you a pint of blood.

Can i transplant a Rose Of Shannon that is about 10 ft tall?
If so, how deep are the roots and what is the best time of year to do this? I have the two of the most beautiful Rose Of Sharon shrubs near my deck, however, I do not think that the previous owner took into consideration how tall they would grow or the number of bees they would attract. I would hate to have to remove it completly as it is fully mature and has come back beautifully after trimming the last two years. Thanks for the help!
Can i transplant a Rose Of Shannon that is about 10 ft tall?
Cut to 6' tall, dig around the tree at least 3' from the base. Replant in new area, with plenty of water, then mulch 4" and wait until next Spring to feed it.
You will get many runners and new trees popping up from the roots left behind in the old spot. Pull and/or dig them quickly to avoid having 1000's of new trees in that area.
Reply:This is the best source for me on transplanting roses and I have never killed a rose.

Reply:If it is hot at your place like its hot at mine (almost 95) wait until it cools down. The roots are probably pretty deep you will have to dig a hole at least 3 feet in diameter and probably the same depth also, you will know when you start to dig. The little roots dont matter as much as the big ones, try not to hit the tap root. After you transplant just remember WATER WATER WATER! Lots of water after transplanting, it will look bad for a while after doing it but next year it will be fine. WATER WATER WATER

Is the burning bush a fast grower and a good choice to disguise a fence, or is rose of sharon bush better?
The Euonomys burning bush is an excellent choice
to disguise a fence using a shrub. If you like
flowers and vines, You should look into the Clematis
family. They are beautiful with many color varieties.

Burning bush has a quicker start. Rose of Sharon take a few years but then they grow quickly and get TOO big. But I love their flowers.

When is the best time of the year to cut down the branches of Rose of Sharon bushes Before or after winter?
Prillville has got a good point.
I prune mine in the very late fall, after the leaves have fallen. It is easier to see the branches and make pruning decisions then. I only ever remove 12-18 inches off of mine, to maintain a height. Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) blooms on the current seasons growth, so if you prune it after it leafs out, you might ruin the bloom.
Again I prune mine late in the year, about Thanksgiving (in Michigan), you could do it in the spring before it leafs out (maybe early April in Michigan). Be sure to keep it watered in the fall, as Rose of Sharon is susceptible to fall droughts. An application of ESPOMA 'hollytone' in the fall would be a good fertilizer to ensure a healthy spring!
I hope that this helps
Good luck-
When is the best time of the year to cut down the branches of Rose of Sharon bushes Before or after winter?
Just when winter is starting to go away Is when I trim fertilize and re mulch my roses and for nice big blooms put your bad bananas in the bed with them my roses have nice big heads on them from this
Reply:I never cut mine I leave it alone %26amp; it grows alot each new year
Reply:In SoCal we do it when they are leafless. It never interrupts flowering and is easier to prune :-)
Good luck :-)
Reply:I live in the South East and I've cut mine during all seasons and it doesn't seem to phase them. They always come back in the spring.
Reply:I found that the best time to trim roses is in the spring time, because everything normally goes dormant in the winter months, and could possibly kill your roses. The planting season also is in the spring for roses.
Reply:Where are you?
How is your climate?
The answer depends on the two questions found above.
Some people prune before winter, some after winter, and some have no winter in the garden.
I'd trust the word of the person at your favorite nursery in your community to some unseen person here ... the answers will all, no doubt be correct for the climate of the person answering.

Is it too late in the year to take a trimming from my Rose of Sharon tree and plant it in another spot?
If so when would be an idea time to do so? Also, when is the best time to trim these things back? I'm going to guess after they finish blooming but how long afer?
Is it too late in the year to take a trimming from my Rose of Sharon tree and plant it in another spot?
no. softwood cuttings, June-July, root readily when treated with 1000 ppm IBA(rooting hormone). prune back heavily in early spring, or prune back to 2 or 3 buds in spring to get larger flowers
Reply:The Rose of Sharon, is one of those plants you would want to prune and move in early spring.
Reply:Go ahead and give it a try. Before the first frost date, bring the pot in the house and set it in a south window during the winter.
Reply:in the spring if you want it to grow. second part in the spring so you can trim of any dead. hope that helps.

How does one get rid of Japanese Beetles, help, they are eating my Rose of Sharon?
Any and all info help is really needed, They are getting buds, on them, so will flower soon
How does one get rid of Japanese Beetles, help, they are eating my Rose of Sharon?
They hate garlic. Someone on the gardenweb forum found a garlic-flavored olive oil spray in their cupboard and lightly sprayed their basil plants with it, %26amp; it got rid of the beetles.
Garlic spray:
Use up two cloves of garlic and a hot pepper in a pint of water. Strain, add a drop each of liquid Ivory soap and vegetable oil %26amp; spray on plants early in the morning.
You can also use a neem-based product to get rid of the beetles.
Some people position a bowl filled with soapy water (or oil) under the plant and tap lightly. They should fall out and drown in the solution. This procedure seems to be most effective in the morning or evening when the beetles are resting.
Another procedure is to spray infected plants with a mixture of 1 tablespoon isopropyl alcohol to a pint of pyrethrin mixture every 3 to 5 days.
Don't use any chemical remedy or even the "safe" organic pesticides in full sun or high temperatures because that's when they can burn or stress plants.
Landscape with plants that are known to actively repel the adults, white mums, rue, tansy, larkspur, garlic, citronella.
Long-term prevention for Japanese Beetles is biological controls such as beneficial nematodes or a product called "milky spore," which attack the grubs, and prevent recurrence for years.
Rotenone, Pyrethrum, Diazinon and Sevin sprays are also effective against adult beetles.
Reply:Thanks for voting. I enjoyed the research %26amp; am happy to help you outsmart the pests. :) Report It
Reply:You can use a number of insecticides offered in garden centers, but what worked for me is this:
1:3 solution of Flea killing pet shampoo (not repellent) and water. Spray it down every day until they are gone. - It's fairly inexpensive too.
Reply:Go out there with a bucket of soapy water, pick them off the plant and drop them in the bucket. You might want to wear rubber gloves if you don't like touching them. If you can't reach them, knock them off with a jet of water from the hose. If it is a large rose of Sharon, I don't like the idea of spraying the whole plant because of drift, like the spray might drift back on me. I either put 'em in the bucket or just ignore them. The leaves will grow back.
Reply:Get a model of the USS Midway to place out in your lawn. That will definitely keep them at bay, but you may have a stray Kamikaze strike every now and then.
Reply:you need to put some bug b gone or something similar downbefore it's time for the grubs to hatch. this will prevent them from turning in to beetles. if you already have them the flea shampoo trick might work or possibly traps. prevention is best. just buy the stuff in late winter early spring and read directions and apply. some people don't like to use the chemical method though. just makw sure you live in a place that doesn' t have a lot of runoff so this product stays out of lakes and streams, ponds, etc.
Reply:Unfortunately you can't get rid off them. Don't buy any of those traps either, they have a hormone in them that attracks them. Mix up 2 Tbsp of dish soap to a gallon of water and treat your plant

Are there any South Koreans that can give me info on the Rose of Sharon (Moogoonghwa)?
Why is it the national flower of South Korea?
Your historical information would be helpful for my FLOWER BLOG http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-Bb8S3XAye...
Thank you :)
Are there any South Koreans that can give me info on the Rose of Sharon (Moogoonghwa)?
"According to records, Koreans have treasured the rose of Sharon as a heavenly flower since ancient times. In fact, the Silla Kingdom called itself Mugunghwa Country. Even the ancient Chinese referred to Korea as "The land of gentlemen where Mugunghwa blooms." Love for the flower was further heightened when Mugunghwa samcheolli hwaryeo gangsan" ("Rose of Sharon, thousand miles of beautiful mountain and river land!") was written into the national anthem of the late "19th century. As the rose of Sharon has been an important part of the Korean culture for centuries, it was only natural that the government adopted it as the national flower after Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule." (link 1)
"In Korea, the Rose of Sharon (mugunghwa or Hibiscus syriacus) is the historical symbol of the present and historic Yi Dynasty Korean royal family, and figures throughout domestic and royal architectural elements, particularly in roof tiles." (link 2)
"It is no coincidence that the mugunghwa is Korea's national flower. China's oldest geography book Shanhaijing (The Classic of the Mountains and the Seas) contains the following mention: "In the land of gunja (gentlemen), there is a flower called hunhwacho, which blooms in the morning and dies at night." Gunja, meaning "gentleman," refers to Korea and hunhwacho refers to the mungunghwa. The flower is also often mentioned in Korean history texts, according to which the kingdom of Silla (57 B.C. - A.D. 935) called itself Geunhwahyang, which means "country of mugunghwa." This means the mugunghwa was the national flower from the time of Silla. Yi Gyu-bo's Dongguk Isanggukjip (Collected Works of Minister Yi) from late Goryeo, contains an argument over whether "mugung" should be expressed in Chinese characters as "無窮" meaning infinite, or "無宮" which meant that it overshadowed even the palace. This shows that the name "mugunghwa" existed in the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392). In a poem by the Joseon poet Yu Mong-in there is a line that says, "The man's face was as handsome as the mugunghwa." All of these references indicate that from long ago in the past our ancestors had planted and admired the flower." (link 3)

How can I keep choking vines in my Forsythia's and Rose of Sharon? I call them Chinese choke weeds but . . .
I really don't know what they are. They wind themselves through all my shrubs and bushes and choke the life out of my plants. I've tried digging them out but they always seem to come back. I think the root system travels under ground to spread. Does anyone else have this problem? My lilac's are looking a little haggard these days because of them.
How can I keep choking vines in my Forsythia's and Rose of Sharon? I call them Chinese choke weeds but . . .
It is probably "bind weed" and it is very difficult to completely remove from the garden. The best thing is to try %26amp; pull out by the roots. If you just pull out the part that is winding around your shrubs it may even encourage it's growth, it will consider it a "pruning". You could probably try round up or vinegar at the point where the weed comes out of the ground, but I am not sure that will even work. I put carpet %26amp; black (tar) paper down as a weed block and it grew right through both.

What would be the best time of the year to transplant rose of sharon bush?
I have several roses and some of that one. Do your transplanting now, there's rain/snow here and it's just right or wait 'till spring.
What would be the best time of the year to transplant rose of sharon bush?
That is like planting a weed it just don't matter. That plant will reproduce faster than rabbits. You will have those things all over the place before it's over you'll probably wish you hadn't planted it.
Reply:Don't know where you live, but here in Arizona (middle of state)
I would suggest the Springtime. why are they saying the're a
weed? They are beautiful when blooming. We have 5 and they
make a beautiful hedge. I guess maybe some areas they might be considered a weed. Like Hollyhocks are a weed out here and not considered so elsewhere.

Is there a part of the Bible that speaks of 'The Rose of Sharon'?
Sounds pretty anyway....
Is there a part of the Bible that speaks of 'The Rose of Sharon'?
I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys.
Song of Songs 2:1
While the exact flower referred to here is unknown, the use of the Hebrew word shushan for “lily” in this verse indicates a plant with six petals. A likely choice, therefore, would be the polyanthus narcissus, which grows in the hills and moist valleys of the Sharon Plain. It flowers during the winter and has white petals and an orange cup or corona enhancing the beauty of each cluster. Narcissi have been found as offerings in Hellenistic tombs in Egypt.

Does anyone know when the best time is to transplant Rose of Sharon's in Southern Kentucky ?
i am in northern central kentucky...you should have enough time to transplant them if you do it now....i normally transplant trees in early spring because that gives the roots more time to get established but if you are in a situation that you cant wait till early spring do it now while the ground is still warm
after transplanting apply mulch around the base and a little way out to help keep the ground warmer thus giving the roots more time to grow
Does anyone know when the best time is to transplant Rose of Sharon's in Southern Kentucky ?
Either fall or spring. And the things seed themselves so freely, I'll give you plenty.:-)
Reply:during the sping but dont do it so ofthen
Reply:when they go dormant...usually towards the end of Oct thruough the beginning of Mar sounds about right for Kentucky

What are the pods at the top of my "Rose of Sharon" bush?
Can I plant those? Should I break the seeds out before planting? I want more plants.
What are the pods at the top of my "Rose of Sharon" bush?
This fall trim all of those seed pods off of your trees, they will not bloom if you leave those seed pods on. You can take a big plastic soda bottle and cut the bottom out of it, break your seed pods and work up
some soil and put the seeds on top of the
soil and screw the soda bottle down around your seeds, keep the cap on the bottle and take it off and give a shot of water, in the spring you will have a bunch of little trees, I grew many In Idaho and North Carolina and I never had trouble with the colors changing.
You can also take a branch cutting and poke it in the ground in the fall (no seeds) and it will grow in the spring, trim back all the leaves from the area you stick in the ground. ;0)
Reply:You can indeed plant the seeds, and you should open the pods before planting them. Put them in a pot of good quality potting soil, rather than dirt from a flower bed, so as to minimize potential problems from soil-borne disease. Ideally, they should be in a greenhouse for a year, but if you live in a humid area, they can handle being outdoors earlier.

Reply:THEY ARE BUDS FOR NEXT YEARS FLOWERS.iF YOU LOOK AT THE GROUND AROUND THE BASE OF THE TREE OR BUSH, YOU WILL SEE A NUMBER OF SMALL SEEDLINGS GROWING , THESE ARE WHAT YOU WANT TO TRANSPLANT
Reply:Could be seed pods. most likely! what shape are they?
Reply:They are seeds--If you plant them or just leave them --you will have many more rose of Sharon trees-- believe me!!! They multiply profusely. A word about the color--- When you plant the seeds or they just come up naturally from seeds --they will not be the same as the color of the one they came from--- Seeds will go back to the parent color or gene--like children from their parents ancestors-- You will get a different color than what you started with --unless you have the dominant old fashion one to begin with which is usually Purple. I had to plant my Rose of Sharon (ALTHEA) bush in the lower corner of my yard because it has so many babies and spreads over the whole yard. It is an invasive plant--beautiful if kept in bounds-- Mine is a double pink one that looks like pink carnations. Enjoy!!!

In the End of Silent Hill, why aren't Rose and Sharon back in reality? Are they dead, I mean What is going on?
Contrary to popular belief, no, Rose and "Sharon" are not dead. Rose and her husband weren't able to see each other in the end because they're still in Alessa's alternate dimension, while her husband is in the real world. Here's the deal...
There are three parts of Alessa:
- Alessa (the original body)
- Sharon (Alessa's good side)
- Dark Alessa (Alessa's evil side)
Sharon and Dark Alessa are basically manifestations of the two sides of Alessa - the good side and the evil side. As for how Alessa created these manifestations and the alternate dimensions, it can only be assumed that she possessed some kind of supernatural power (which in addition to the fact that she had no father, would obviously lead everyone associated with the cult to call her a witch). That being the case, this is what happened:
1) Dark Alessa does not, in fact, take over or possess Sharon at the church. Dark Alessa (the evil side) simply recombines with Sharon (the good side), creating a new and complete "reincarnated" Alessa.
2) Alessa's pact with her evil counterpart that we saw in the flashback not only ensures that she will help her exact her revenge, but that Alessa, after making herself "whole" again, will also have a second chance at life with a new (and surely in her eyes, better) mother: Rose.
3) And as for the ending:
Alessa's plan works -she gets her much deserved revenge on the cultists, Dark Alessa and Sharon recombine and create a newly "reborn" Alessa, and she ends up with Rose (who either isn't aware or just doesn't care that this little girl isn't her Sharon anymore) as her new mother. Now with Sharon's memories to work with after reuniting her two halves, Alessa can extend her alternate dimension and create a world just like the one Sharon and Rose lived in, where they can stay forever. In other words, Alessa doesn't want them to leave her alternate dimension and in her eyes, for good reason. The real world is where Alessa was hurt, abused and humiliated. In the real world, she felt unsafe, unloved and that the people are untrustworthy (especially men, considering that the absence of her father - assuming he even existed - was the source of her torment, in addition to her horrific experience with the school janitor). Alessa wants to live out the rest of her new life with her new loving mommy in her alternate dimension, where she's in control and she feels safe. However, this is also how Dahlia's warning to Rose, "Be careful what you choose," comes to pass. Unfortunately for Rose, this end result means that she is essentially trapped in Alessa's alternate dimension indefinitely.
Hope this helps. :)
In the End of Silent Hill, why aren't Rose and Sharon back in reality? Are they dead, I mean What is going on?
There really is not any right or wrong answer to this ending as everyone has their own opinions on it. Like someone has mentioned, maybe we all will know the real reason in SH2.
There a couple of possibilities-- Rose were dead all along the moment she were in that car accident therefore stuck in the SH universe forever.
Or she might have not 'died'. Remember at the end of the movie Sharon looked straight at Alessa-- what could have happened is that Sharon and Alessa became as 'one' again and Alessa is able to start a new life with a new mommy in her own world the way she wanted it be. She got her revenge on Christabella and the other damned townsfolk so now she can start fresh again. That could been another reason Rose and Sharon were still stuck in alternate Silent Hill (Alessa has control over).
I know it is weird but I hope this answer somewhat clear things up.
Reply:If you remember in the movie Daliah said "Only evil will open and close the door to silent hill." Once the "child" that started the whole thing there opened the door to the other plane of exsistance of silent hill she did not let them back out. Its like one realm of a place and another. Example, the scene where Rose is at the school and her husband is smelling her perfume, they were both there at the same time but on different planes of exsitance. I hope that makes sence. She cannot leave the realm she walked into when she went to silent hill. After reading this it still sounds like it doesn't make sence. Maybe someone else can elaborate on what I have said.
Reply:I think the main reason why they can't leave Silent Hill is b/c the little girl got tainted with evil and in destroying her innocence, the doorway back to the main reality closed. That scene I'm referring to is near the end when the demon girl is cutting everyone up and Rose tells Sharon not to look, the demon climbs up the ladder and Sharon opens her eyes and at that moment, her innocence was destroyed from seeing such evil.
Reply:Yeah, I feel your pain. I thought it was a great movie, but it was hard to fully understand just what the heck was going on at the end. But as another answerer stated, I think they'd been transferred into this alternate SH dimension (like hell, really) that they are now apart of.
Reply:I think they're still stuck in the Silent Hill "universe" (parallel world..thingy.)
But we wont know for sure until SH2. ;3

I live in southern New Hampshire and my rose of Sharon isn't doing anything yet?
i planted it last summer it was beautifull aprox 7ft tall and it was loaded with flowers i cut a branch and its white on the inside with a circle of green!if its still alive how do i care for this and maintain i dont have a green thumb
I live in southern New Hampshire and my rose of Sharon isn't doing anything yet?
Don't worry about it, they are very slow to leaf out after the weather warms up. You won't have leaves until later in June, and blooms come in July. I went through this with my Rose Of Sharon, too, in a similar area (Western upstate NY). Just be patient, it'll be fine.
Reply:We live in N. Mass and one of our Rose of Sharon's started flowering while the other shows nothing yet because it gets less sun. Be patient - we do nothing to ours and it always comes back every year. It just takes time and is particularly slow this year.
Reply:We live further south of you but we have found fertilizing with fish emulsion works wonders for them every spring. Follow the directions as you can over do it.
Reply:The branches always seem a little weird, almost hollow in a sense. Rose of Sharon require little maintenance so if it is still alive you really only need to prune it to shape. I usually also pull off dead flowers to encourage new blooms. I sometimes collect the seeds and share them with friends.

When is the best time to transplant a rose of sharon tree in michigan?
I would think now would be a good time. More water is available, cooler temps so it doesn't wilt. If it dies, I have hundreds of seedlings you can come get next spring.:-)
When is the best time to plant a rose of sharon bush/tree? I live in New York State?
I would like to plant one now but I am not sure if this is the right time as they are already in bloom.
When is the best time to plant a rose of sharon bush/tree? I live in New York State?
They are pretty hardy I would go ahead and do it now. I have a bunch of them here in Houston as well as, as at my farmhouse in WV. They do well here in the heat and up north in the cold. Just make sure you water it good every few days until it's roots have time to spread out. Also, they do get about the size of a dogwood so remember that when you plant it.
Reply:You can plant it now, as long as you remember to water it well through frost. I lived in CT (similar climate) and they'd take if watered enough.
Enjoy the blooms!

I have taken a small trimming from a Rose of Sharon and a Crepe Myrtle.?
Any suggestions or tips on how to ensure their survival?
I have a small trimming from each (about a foot or so long). They are in seperate vases in about 2 inches of water. Inside my garage(not air conditioned) but in a window sill with sunlight aplenty.
What else should I do for them? I would like to plant them in the front of my yard as they both have beautiful colors.
Also, how long do you think it will take them to start to root, and when they do start, how long before I put them into a pot of soil? Or will I have time to put them straight into the ground this year?
Wow, about 4 questions and it only cost me 5 points!
I have taken a small trimming from a Rose of Sharon and a Crepe Myrtle.?
Rose of Sharons are my absolute favorite! The best way to get them to start forming roots is to use rooting hormone. I use Schultz Take Root, available from Wal-mart, K-mart, etc. I don't use it exactly according to directions, although I suppose you could. I swirl the cut end in the powder, then gently place it a clear vase or glass with several inches of water. I repeat this every time I change the water (every couple of days). If you just keep them in the water, and change it regularly, they'll start rooting on their own after a while, too. The hormone just makes it go faster.
In a week or so, it should start having some good roots started. When it has at least several little roots coming out of the stem, that's when I transplant it into a good potting soil. If you're planting it directly in the yard, remove the regular dirt, and replace with enriched potting soil. This will give it plenty of nutrition during that crucial first year. I don't think it will make much difference if you plant it directly in the yard, or in a pot, whatever is easiest for you. You have to make sure it has plenty of sun, and doesn't get too dry.
I think if you get it to take hold and thrive this year, it will make it. I know nothing about Crepe Myrtles, but I know Rose of Sharons. They are incredibly hardy and resilient little things! I've seen ones that were sorely abused bounce back and thrive. Good luck, and enjoy!
Reply:I've appended a link below for propagation of woody stem cuttings. There are other sites w/ more detailed information. Type "rooting woody stem plants" or "Propagation of woody stem plants" into a Search Engine. The link I've given you has some basic info on moisture/humidity, temperature, planting media, rooting hormones and stem "wounding". Once you've planted the cutting do not disturb it, i.e. don't pull it up to see if it has rooted. It will take 1 - 4 months for the cutting to root. Don't expect to plant it before next spring. Then it should be put in a gallon size pot for at least a year before putting it into the yard. Patience is the prudent course. After the rooted cutting is in a the gallon pot use a water soluble, low nitrogen fertilizer - tomato plant fertilizer is a good choice - applied at about 1/4 the recommended rate every time you water it. Another "fertilizer" that is good for the plant is a product called Super-Thrive. It provides trace elements. Super-Thrive is available at Granges, nurseries and mart type stores with large gardening sections.
Don't be surprised if the cutting fails to root. Rooting woody stem plants has a fairly high failure rate.
Good Luck and Happy Gardening!

My grandma say's I should plant a Rose of Sharon in my yard, is that some kind of Satanic cult slang?
no...your thinking of the cult in Montana that planted Sharon Rose behind their shrubs. I believe that her rose was still intact.

Where would be the best place to plant rose of sharon, direct sun, indirect?
Rose of Sharon tolerates semi-shade but blooms better in full sun.
For the first full year, water your rose of Sharon every third day. Water deeply to encourage a deep root system.
After that, let it go until summertime.
It is drought tolerant but will appreciate extra watering during the morning in hot weather--once a week is fine.

direct sunlight and a good fertilizer like manure or this stuff

What kind of food do i feed my rose of sharon?
some have grown tall about 5' now and others are still small and not growing as quickly. also some of the leaves are turning yellow
What kind of food do i feed my rose of sharon?
The rose of sharon is one tough plant-- agree with the miricle grow-- check out the water-- see if some is watered more than others. If you have clay soil-- you may have the "bathtub effect"-- this is when the hole you dug is in clay and the roots are having a very hard time breaking out of the "hole"--
I planted three maple trees at the same time-- the smallest took 5 years to begin growing-- I took fireplace ashes-- a large sack full spread over the root zone in the fall-- the winter rains get it into the ground-- after one application-- the tree apparently got what was needed and began to grow. Hardwood ashes are what potash is derived from-- which helps roots to grow.
Reply:lol i thought you were talking about a Killswitch Engage song :) (they are AWESOME by the way) ;)
Reply:Bottom leaves yellow, too much water, and top, not enough.
Reply:mircle grow acid loving plant food and rose food.

How and when can I create a new rose of sharon tree by using an offcut of a healthy plant?
Rose of Sharon can get out of hand because wherever the flowers fall the seeds fall out and take root, which is why some people don't like them, they can overpower the yard. So with this in mind, I don't think it will be hard to plant one from an existing tree or bush. Take a few flowers and open them and removed the seeds. Plant the seeds where you want the tree to bloom. I think that is all you need to do to make a Rose of Sharon take root. I would use a soil builder mixed in the hole with your soil to make the soil better. Rose of Sharon is one of my favorite flowers, so in my opinion, you've made a great choice. Good luck.

I can't find anybody who has rose of sharon "yellow". Is this plant no longer available? Or where can I find.
I would try plant distributors such as Michigan bulb Company or Guernnsey seed. They have catalogs that show different types of plants. Many of these have rose of sharon and they may even have yellow or would be better to direct you to someone who does.

I suggest you play the games, if you haven't already, because they will give you a better understanding of the 'Other world' scenario and the fog. There are 3 dimensions to SH ) 1) the shrouded fog world which Sharon, Dahlia and Rose are trapped in (Alessa called them for help and creating Sharon from her soul would inevitabley bring Rose to the fooggy town, wheras Thomas Gucci and Roses husband are still in 2) real world silent hill..becareful to observe this next time you watch the DVD)
3) The decaying otherworld which is what Alessas fear and hurt had created ergo that is where the creation of Dark Alessa comes from, tis a world not on earth, nor in hell, nor heaven.
Reply:Probably 'cause they are women in a horror film. With the notable exception of Jamie Lee Curtis, women in horror films are brainless, helpless and just waiting to be killed in some grisly fashion. Think about it!
Reply:because the road blew up or something. it went away..
Reply:Contrary to popular belief, no, I don't believe they're dead.
Rose and Sharon (who really isn't Sharon anymore, but a "reincarnation" of Alessa) couldn't escape for one simple reason: Alessa didn't want them to leave. They are in still in Alessa's alternate dimension not because they're dead, but because rather than just going back to the real world (which essentially is full of people she doesn't trust), Alessa wants to keep her new mother, Rose, all to herself.
Just my opinion.
Reply:It's like they were taken into another dimension or something.
Reply:im pretty sure it was because they had died in the car crash and they were just wandering spirits and stuck there and they are probably leaving a opening fo the second movie cause in the second game the guy's wife is dead.
Reply:my guess would be the little girl who mother let the town peoples burn her to death needed help to save her soul and escape that awful place, some way rose and sharon were linked to the little girl to save the little girls soul from damnation/ But while trying to save the little girls soul with one of the only things that is strong in this world which is a mothers love it all kinda backfires on rose and sharon and they both get stuck in the hell/ if the little girl would of left her eyes closed the soul of the other little girl wouldnt have been able to get in her body/eyes are the window to ones soul/ well i dont know if that makes any sense but thats how i seen it
Reply:Because only the dark one opens the door to Silent Hill and choose that Rose and Sharron would stay in that "world" forever.
Reply:my theory is that they were sucked into the evil domain(hell) and that they can't escape from that.
Reply:They couldn't escape because they died. When they crashed, they died, and joined the supernatural "ghosts" of Silent Hill. That's why the guy can't see his wife anymore, and that's why there's wierd things.......But since she's partially around, as a ghost, the husband can feel her. Cybil, the cop also died too. They all died in the crash......

If they had died in the car crash though... the people in our dimension would just find them dead in their car.. so that's not a very good answer.

When and how should I prune a Rose of Sharon?
I have 3 I received a couple years ago. They were clippings from someone else's. They are big and beautiful and healthy, but I don't know how to take care of them. They usually bloom around July 4. I live in Indiana, not sure what zone, Thanks
When and how should I prune a Rose of Sharon?
Roses of Sharon tend to get a little leggy if you don't prune them yearly. The best time to prune is after the last freeze of the year but before they really start to leaf out. If you want to be on the safe side, wait until well past the date on which you generally have the last freeze in your area. You can even wait until the plants start to leaf out a little bit. As soon as the buds begin to appear, you'll be better able to tell whether there has been any frost damage or not.
Once you can clearly see buds all over the (healthy portions of the)plant, you can decide how low to trim individual branches down so they don't get too top-heavy over the summer. When pruning, cut the individual branch almost immediately above a healthy, outward-facing bud, and make sure the cut is both clean and slightly angled away from the bud.
You can also prune a few or the longer, leggier branches in the spring, summer, or fall, if you wish, so long as you don't trim away so many leaves that the plant has trouble surviving. On the whole, you want to do your major pruning in early spring and limit pruning the rest of the year to dead-heading or weeding out excessively long branches that are too weak to hold up their blooms.

I heard that if you take and put a little bit of dish soap in a spray bottle of water and spritz your plants it will keep the bugs off.

Please explain to me the expression Rose of Sharon as it is used in Christianity to name Jesus.?
The Rose of Sharon is in the Song of Songs AKA the Song of Solomon. Raging debate about its purpose in the Biblical cannon went on in early days of the church and there are some who believe the book serves no purpose today. When finally accepted as a part of scripture, first by early Jews, the Jews said it describes God's relationship with the chosen people, the Jews themselves. Then, with the rise of Christianity and as they developed their own sense of the Scriptures and debated Song of Solomon's value in the Biblical cannon, they decided that the Song of Solomon was a metaphor for God's love for the church.
Why try to sanitize it? Because the church wanted to soften its sexual overtones. The book is attributed to Solomon who had many wives, including Sheba, for whom the book is supposed to be written. How does the church then promote monogamy and condemn promiscuity and frankly, control the insitution of marriage when the Bible has such romantic and erotic poetry in it?
To attribute the name of Christ with the rose of sharon, the lily of the valley, which are supposedly the metaphors for flowers of beauty and symbols themselves of purity is to cement the notion of purity of Christ. But if you read further, the writer says " I am the Rose of Sharon, the lily of the valleys, the lily among the thorns, so is my love for the daughters" If this is about Christ and his relationship with the church, then he is depicted very differently from the way we as Christians have always thought of him. But if we see it for what it is, a beautiful love letter showing that sex is a blessing for the ones who have it in Love and Passion and commit the energies of their love to the glory of God, how blessed are we indeed when we embrace our lover and know that this act, this consumation of the flesh is as much an act of faith as prayer or holy communion......ah, but I wax poetic.....I haven't kissed my lover today.......

Rose of Sharon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rose of Sharon is a flower of uncertain identity mentioned in English language translations of the Bible. The word in question is the Hebrew חבצלת ḥăḇaṣṣeleṯ, which has been uncertainly linked to the words בצל beṣel, meaning 'bulb', and חמץ ḥāmaṣ, which is understood as meaning either 'pungent' or 'splendid' (The Analytical Hebrew and Chaldee Lexicon). The name first appears in 1611, when it was used in the King James Version of the Bible. According to an annotation at Song of Solomon 2.1 by the translation committee of the New Revised Standard Version, this is a mistranslation of the Hebrew word for "crocus". Different scholars have suggested that the biblical "Rose of Sharon" is one of the following plants:

When is best time to transplant rose of sharon from insde to out and thin/transplnt a bleeding heart?
Plant your rose of sharon outside now.
For perennials that bloom in spring ...like your bleeding heart...fall is the best time to thin out, divide %26amp; transplant. It's a good thing to thin perennials when they start getting overgrown. When crowded, the plants produce fewer blooms and are more likely to become diseased. Thinning is an easy, inexpensive way to generate more plants and to prevent one species from crowding out others.
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/gl_plants_peren...
Water your bleeding heart days before digging so that more soil will cling to the roots when you dig it up.
Prepare your new planting site before you dig up your bleeding heart, so you can transfer your bleeding heart immediately to its new location.
Use composted soil or potting soil in the new site for your transplanted bleeding heart.
Divide your bleeding hearts late in the day or when the sky is overcast.
Good luck! I hope this is helpful.

I've never heard of thinning Bleeding Heart. I grew up with them and currently have one in my yard. It dies back to the ground by July. I'm in Zone 6.
Reply:What zone are you in? Well, at this point it really doesn't matter. Get it in the ground asap. It won't survive a winter indoors. Wait to thin the bleeding heart until it reemerges next spring.

I have japanese beetles eating my rose of sharon and I have tried the bag and sprays but nothing is.?
working is there anything that will get rid of them I'm tired of picking them off 5 times a day.
I have japanese beetles eating my rose of sharon and I have tried the bag and sprays but nothing is.?
GET RID OF THE BAG A BUG. I use to work for the company that makes these things. Let me tell you how they work. They attract beetles. They attract them right to your plants. I used them once and my yard and gardens were covered with beetles. I got rid of them and the beetles went away.
Reply:Unfortunately, Japanese beetles will eat even insecticide treated plants. They eat the leaves, then die. Hopefully they die before they can lay eggs again (which become grubs which moles feed on which tear up your lawn and garden) .
There is very little biological control for these pests. I do have some sparrows that come and eat them off of my crepe myrtle (which is apparently a Japanese beetle buffet AND bordello).
The best control of the adult beetles is to control the grubs. Apply grub-ex, triazicide or milky spore to your soil in spring and hope that the grubs are affected. If you use the pheromone traps, hang them as far away from delicate plants and keep those bags emptied.
I understand they (beetles) are not fond of the plant catmint. plant more of this in your gardens.
Reply:Unfortunately there aren't many things that work against Japanese Beetles, and the few that do have little residual effect (wear off quickly).
Hand picking does help a great degree, as other beetles are actually more attrated to plants with beetles already on them (phermones). Traps may actually make the problem worse by attacting far too many bugs to your yard.
Hand picking and dousing the picked bugs in a soapy bath will eliminate a lot of the problem (recommended picking time is the AM when beetles are sluggish). Also, you might try a thin bug net for a short time to make them less attracted to your plant.

Reply:Don't use the bag. That only attracts them to your place. Yes, it collects and kills them, but it also attracts them from all over just making the problem worse.
I used Ortho spray (for a pump sprayer) on my stuff and that seemed to work, but anywhere you have new growth you have to spray that also.
A co-worker was telling me that his neighbor used Bayer's formula for bugs. You just spray it around the base of the plants and it soaks up through the plants and fends off the bugs and beetles. My co-worker tried it and says it works really good and I know he has a lot of Rose of Sharon bushes.
And what Julie mentioned about treating for grubs earlier in the year around spring/early summer helps. The grubs turn into Japanese Beetles. Milky Spore works really good. If you look it up on wikipedia it is a natural defense against them. And it helps stop them supposedly for 10-15 years or so.
Reply:Neem oil was found in a study to be one of the best of the naturally occurring insecticides found in plants. It's extracted from a tropical tree %26amp; when applied every four to seven days, it prevented Japanese beetles from chewing up rose and linden leaves used in the test.

Sevin %26amp; Bayer Advanced Rose %26amp; Shrub Care are effective chemical insecticides for killing beetles.
Long-term prevention for Japanese Beetles is biological controls such as beneficial nematodes or a product called "milky spore," which attack the grubs, and prevent recurrence for years.
Merit (Imidacloprid) will penetrate the soil, kill grubs %26amp; active adults %26amp; then stay in the soil throughout the winter. The following spring Merit will still be active. Though it's designed to last for the whole year, you get better results if you treat in the fall and then again in the spring.http://www.bugspray.com/catalog/products...

I have a 5 year old rose of sharon bush and it's been uprooted by strong winds. Can I save it?
It's leaning on its side in the yard and I was amazed to see it was still alive. There are some roots still in the ground but a lot are above ground. Is this something I can save?
I have a 5 year old rose of sharon bush and it's been uprooted by strong winds. Can I save it?
sure you can save it,redig the hole to the proper delph add a little rose nutrients, water well and with proper attention it should do well, good luck
Reply:You can also put in deep stakes to tie the tree down so the next big wind doesn't up root it again before it has time to reestablish itself.
Reply:Yes, by all means. You can dug where the uprooted roots came from and then gently reposition the whole plant upright but be very careful not to damage the remaining roots in the ground. The exposed one would be dry now but that doesn't mean they're dead. Now is the right time to put some future support and also some good compost.
Your rose should be fine. Good luck.

How would you prune an overgrown rose of sharon shrub/tree?
wait till it blooms
cut to desired shape or size
water daily if your pruning severely
good luck
How would you prune an overgrown rose of sharon shrub/tree?
I would cut it flush with the ground, then take out a shovel and dig out the root ball, then burn the entire mess. Where I live, (Pittsburgh) Rose of Sharon is considered more of a nuisance than anything else. My mother used to call them "bee bushes," because the flowers would attract so many bees. They grow very fast, send up volunteers all over the yard, and make it difficult to maintain a nice yard.
Reply:Pruning:
Since Rose of Sharon blooms on current year's growth, prune in late winter, before the plant breaks dormancy.
-Prune 1/3 of the stems by removing dead, broken, tangled areas and cutting the remaining stems to your desired height.
Reply:I would wait till Oct. to prune it. First look for any crossing branches and take those out. Find a picture of one and try to shape it like that. Cut out any that you think are too long. Cut just below a leaf.

In the fall we moved a rose of sharon?
it was watered , %26amp; well taken care of now it's green inside but no leaves or sign of life on the outside , any idea's i don't want to loose this tree
In the fall we moved a rose of sharon?
It might take some time. Transplanting plants can send them into shock. Fertilize and water well and see what happens next year.
Reply:Do not fret. The Rose of Sharon is a late bloomer and is not flowering at this time of year at least where I live. Central states. My Rose of Sharon is just now showing a few leaf buds but will not really be full and blooming until sometime in July. It will be in full flower in August. If it is green inside, it is probably fine but is not ready to do its bloom as yet.

How long does it take rose of sharon to get 6 feet tall?
NOT VERY LONG AT ALL....THE FIRST YEAR MAYBE 4 FOOT AND THE SECOND OVER 6 IF YOU DONT TRIM IT BACK
How long does it take rose of sharon to get 6 feet tall?
Hello
For a Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus Syriacus) your looking at roughly a growth rate of about 8-10 inches a year maxing out at 11-13 depending on the type of season we've had in reguards to how quickly it warms up and how slowly it cools down. If you bought it at its standard height roughly 2.5' to 3' it would take about 3-4 years to reach 6 ft and if you bought a small one in say a 6 inch pot around 12" tall it would take about 5-6 years. Good Luck

Will white tailed deer eat rose of Sharon shrubs?
Just planted some a couple of weeks ago and they are already getting leaves on them....Just wondered if they are deer proof.
Will white tailed deer eat rose of Sharon shrubs?
Rose of Sharon is a type of marsh mallow (related to hibiscus). The marsh mallow family (whose roots were precursors to the modern marshmallow candy) is edible by humans.
Yes, deer will eat it if they are so inclined.
Reply:DEER DON'T NORMALY BOTHER SHRUBS UNLESS THEIR ISN'T ANY OTHER FOOD FOR THEM IN THE FOREST OR THEY ARE SNOWED IN THEIR IS A NEW SPRAY OUT CALLED LIQUID FENCE THAT IS SUPPOSE TO KEEP THEM AWAY, JUST SPRAY IT ON THE FLOWERS AND SHRUBS IT WILL NOT HARM ANYTHING AND THE RAIN WILL NOT WASH IT AWAY

I have seeds for a Rose Of Sharon bush, how do I plant them?
TAKE A HEAVY PLASTIC 1/2 GALLON DRINK BOTTLE, CUT THE BOTTOM OUT OF IT---FIX SOME POTTING SOIL IN A SHADY SPOT, PUT THE SEEDS ON TOP OF THE SOIL--SCREW THE PLASTIC BOTTLE OVER THE SEEDS (THE BOTTOM IS OUT) THEN REMOVE THE CAP ON THE BOTTLE AND ADD SOME WATER. PUT THE CAP BACK ON THE BOTTLE. WATCH YOUR SEEDS START TO GROW, ONCE THEY ARE MAKING LEAVES AND GETTING TALLER, PLANT WHERE YOU WANT THEM AND REMEMBER TO WATER.
I have seeds for a Rose Of Sharon bush, how do I plant them?
Heads up! Do not plant this one near any house foundation, sewer lines, or sidewalks. The Rose of Sharon roots will clog or destroy just about anything I've ever seen.
Before you plant this, be aware that they are much like a weed and continue to grow everywhere. You'll need to watch for new plants springing up and keep them under control. I have a bunch of them, and I fight with them constantly. Wish I'd never seen them!

Can I put my new rose of sharon plants in big pots to grow them and transplant them later this year?
I just received these new plants in the mail. I have rapped the roots in a couple wet paper towels and put them back in the bag that they came in until I can plant them. I need to know if I am going to damage these plants by putting them into big pots with soil with out actually putting them into the ground (yard) untill my fiancee and I can decide where to put them later this summer.
Can I put my new rose of sharon plants in big pots to grow them and transplant them later this year?
Yes, you can plant rose of sharon in big pots and transplant them later this year. It's better to transplant them in Fall when the weather is cool to minimize tranplant shock and the roots don't dry quickly from summer heat.
Reply:That shouldn't be a problem. The plant doesn't know that it is in a pot. Rose ofSharon are very forgiving and easy to grow.
I have so many White Rose of Sharon bushes, I keep cutting them down! They grow to 8, 10 feet tall. But, I love them.
Reply:Go ahead and put them in pots. Althea ( Rose of Sharon) are very easy to grow. It is a very good idea to pot them up as you are going to have to decide a good place for them. It will give you more time to learn about them as well. They do not get too large but you still need to know their mature size to place them well. Try the library for information. Or try ebay since many sellers there supply information as they are usually in the nursery business.
Since they are bareroot a gallon size pot should be sufficient. They will have time to grow more roots and will be easier to plant if the pot is not too big. The hole you dig should be about two and half times larger than the pot, and just a little deeper.
Oh, yes, check out the area you live in to see what they look like this summer in other people's yards.

Reply:there is a trick to transplanting - it's kind of "folklore", but it seems to hold true: you can only transplant during months with an "r" in them or, DON"T transplant in May, June, July, or August. summer transplants ususally don't survive. Rose of Sharon is a pretty hardy plant, so putting them in pots until fall will work just fine. or you could just plant them outside now, then move them in the fall (after they have lost their leaves), but this increases the chance of injury during transplanting. I hope this helps. good luck

How exactly can i grow rose of sharon from seed?
Easy germination. Start seed indoors 4-6 weeks prior to last spring frost. Sow seeds on good seed starting mix, covering seeds with about 1/4" mix. Moisten mix and keep moist until germination begins. Place container in location at 68-70ºF. Seed should begin germinating in 10-20 days.
Another option is Winter Sowing. SUPER EASY!!! I use this method myself. Check out this website: www.wintersown.org for a great article.
How exactly can i grow rose of sharon from seed?
If it's a seed you have saved or someone has given you it needs to be cool for at least three weeks. This can be done by putting in the lower crisper of your refrigerator.
Come spring, pot up in medium size pot and when plant is large enough put into ground.
Be sure and keep watered well, they take quit a bit of moisture.
Reply:Just grab a bunch of rose of sharon pods from a bush that has bloomed and throw them on some soil where you want the bushes to grow. They will sprout. They come up very easily. I have one and I have to pull up the little sprouts every year.

I live in southern Michigan and my Rose of Sharon and hedge are budding. Can I prune/trim them now?
http://advancedtree.com/tree_althea.htm
it says 'very early spring'... is that where you consider your weather now?.... as long as you're not expecting a deep freeze after today, I'd say go for it.....
hedge?.. what kind?.... trimming encourages new growth and if you're going to get frosted again, it could kill the new growth... better to wait on the hedge.....

You can but your going to cut off the blooms if you do.......the best time to cut back any flowering shrub is immediately after they bloom......before next years blooms are set.

Can I transplant my rose of sharon now (April/May)?
Would like to save my two plants that are covering up my walkway by transplanting them. Can I do that now? I live in southwestern Missouri.
Can I transplant my rose of sharon now (April/May)?
I would opt to wait for first frost, but if you want to do it now mix houseplanting soil, and cedar chips in hole with regular dirt, water every day for 5 days then 1 time a week till established. If it gets weepy add a little more houseplanting soil around it.
Even better plant it right before a rain.
Reply:As long as you can get a good size root ball with lots of dirt on it and water it right away you can transplant it. Just have the new hole pre-dug so the root ball is exposed to the air and drying out as little as possible.
Reply:It is really too late. However, if the shrub is small enough that you can take up a very significant root ball it could work for you. Note: Based on your statement "covering up my walkway" I doubt that it is small enough to be successfully moved at this time.

When do you prune Rose of Sharon bushes?
I always prune the one at one of my client's house when it is leafless. For us in SoCal that is Jan/Feb. It is easier to do then and never interrupts blooming later. And you can really hack Rose Of Sharon(Hibiscus syriacus) hard. They always snap out of it.
Good luck :-)
When do you prune Rose of Sharon bushes?
I usually trim mine in early spring. I also fertilize them in the spring as soon as I trim them. They are very hardy plants and bounce back quickly after the trim.
Reply:I'd prune it in the fall after all the leaves have fallen off. If you prune it too late in the spring, you might cut off buds.
Reply:I do mine in the fall - but ive got mine as a tree its now 10 yrs old and is about 12 feet high i just pull off the suckers during the spring to summer time to keep it nice - hope this helps..
Reply:I asked this question you are asking...from a nursery...and, they said prune 20 percent in the fall or spring...so it will grow properly...and fully..

I have a pink Rose of Sharon, what is the best way to ensure a new plant of the same color?
I have other colors in my yard and when I take the small new plants and transplant I never get a pink one.
I have a pink Rose of Sharon, what is the best way to ensure a new plant of the same color?
The seeds make plants that depend on what color plant they were on combined with what other color plant's pollen happen to fertilize that seed. Between the winds and the bees you never get the exact shade you want.
Try taking cuttings from the big pink-flower plant and rooting them to start a new pink plant. Ignore the seedlings because they are sure to be mixed.
If you have too much time on your hands you could try hand-pollinating a pink flower with pollen from an adjacent pink flower (and then covering the flower to keep other pollen away).
Reply:It will take a while (few weeks till you see some little threads of roots. Best thing is to dip the ends of the branches in a root-grower hormone like Root-tone and then poke them downinto damp sand.
Definitely not overnight. Report It
Reply:We have them too. You can't assure a color. It is pollinated and cross pollenated and you get what you get. I usually put the little plants that come up in a planter and see what color the bloom is. Then transplant.

Can i trim a rose of sharon bush so it doesnt grow so high?
Rose of Sharon can be trimmed and maintained so they form a hedge row. But as all flowering plants you must wait till after the blooms are gone.Just trim the plant to what ever hieght you want. Remember that you must seal all wounds to the plant so that desease and bugs do not get in. This can be done by applying a thin layer of Elmers glue to the wound.
Can i trim a rose of sharon bush so it doesnt grow so high?
Yes you can--You can actually trim them down to almost nothing.--and they will grow back ,(almost indestructible) I Use a Hedge trimmer%26amp; trim mine into a small rectangular hedge along the walkway.-(Beautiful red %26amp; white flowers ).
Reply:yes but you have only a 50-50 chance
Reply:Yes,I have 2 of them and they are 20 years old. They have been severly pruned before and just keep on growing and blooming!
Reply:yes but please make sure it has went to sleep for the winter. you can trim it to the desire that you wont. i kept mine trimed back all the time. i kept it at 6 ft, and every year it would put out more and more blooms every year.
Reply:Yes. Although naturally a multi-stemmed shrub, rose of sharon can be trained through pruning to have simply one main trunk; thus some people refer to it as rose of sharon "tree." It's easiest to give rose of sharon its desired shape by pruning it accordingly during its first two seasons. It can also be trained for espalier.

Should you prune a Rose of Sharon bush ?
Hi, In California I always do it when it is leafless in the winter. Of course you could trim anything that is obnoxious or blocking something else any time. They grow back pretty quickly in the warm weather.
Should you prune a Rose of Sharon bush ?
yes but do it in early spring
Reply:yes..especially if you want it to be thicker..

When do you trim rose of sharon and how do you do it?
I prune mine in the autumn after it is finished blooming. I take out all of the crossed branches, stragglers and suckers. But, for the first few years after planting it, I left the suckers on the base so that it could fill out and get bushier. I haven't had any dead branches on either of the plants I have, but if you do prune those out. I'm letting mine grow taller so I merely shape the top until it gets to the height of the fence and then I will keep it at that height. I use bypass pruners to cut off the branches.
Can I trim a rose of sharon bush now in the spring?
Yes, but I would wait until the pant is through flowering.
Can I trim a rose of sharon bush now in the spring?
yes,up and till the end of may,the best time is april then you can prune it hard.
Reply:I had two and killed one last year pruning in the spring. My Sunset garden book says it should only be pruned in the fall after flowering. The remaining one I have is already in bloom and I'm in zone 8-9 (San Diego), I pruned it in November and would not risk trimming it now after what happened last year.
Reply:yes but do not remove more than 1/3 of the plant best pruning time would be to wait till after the flowers have bloomed
Reply:I was told to do it in the fall if you need to prune alot. Hard pruning when it has leaves may very well kill it.
Reply:Wait till after it blooms. I usually cut mine back in the fall and I always have lots of blooms the next summer.
Reply:Yes. I don't see why not. It actually might help the bush grow.

A freeze killed my rose of sharon bush. Will it come back next year, or should I just cut it down?
Be patient! The cold may have killed off the primary buds but there's a back up system. It takes time to initiate.....if the plant was healthy last few seasons.
Now Rose of Sharon flowers on new growth, that is stuff produced this year. So in theory it could still flower; however, the plant will use a lot of stored energy to over come the freeze damage and may not have enough energy to flower this year. There's always next year.
Have faith in little Rose of Sharon, she has been knocked back, probably not knocked out.

it should be fine.. once the weather warms up, it should put on new leaves and be OK.. the freeze may mess up it's flowering for this year.. we'll just have to wait and see.
Reply:I would wait and see what it does. I had some rose bushes that I thought were killed last year in an unexpected freeze and they never showed any signs of life last year. Well this weekend I went to clean up my yard and all of them have new growth on them. I cut back the dead material from them and they should be back to their former glory this year.
Reply:It will survive! I live in Western NY and my Rose of Sharon bushes do wonderfully.
Reply:cut it down. Look to see when you do cut it down that the branches are alive. If the branches are dead, then there is a possibility that the plant is dead and you must remove and replant a new rose bush.
Reply:No don't cut it down.. the roots may still be alive so just give it patience until next season.. It'll grow don't worry
Reply:I would wait and see what happens. The plant may just be severrely traumatized or stunted from growth for a while. Fruit trees will look dead after a severe frost and may not produce fruit, but often times will be fine the following year.

When do you prune Rose of Sharon bushes?
We have over 17 Rose of Sharon bushes on our property. I prune them heavily in the spring before they go into a major growing spurt. After pruning i trim off all the dead seeds pods for a cleaner healther look. This plant doesn't start the growth of flowers till after the leaves have fully formed. I also lightly prune/shape them all summer long to maintain a nice shape to them, and some branches get to heavy with buds/flowers. I don't worry about cutting the flower buds off since they are spread all over the branches and it quickly produces more flowers again. By the time fall reaches the growth slows down and so i stop pruning.
So I suggest pruning in the spring before the leaves are out.
When do you prune Rose of Sharon bushes?
I just wanted you to see my nice red rose!
Reply:Without getting out the text book I would say early spring before they come out of dormancy. This is a late blooming bush so you won't have to worry about losing flowers next year. If it was a early blooming shrub you would prune right after it flowers but its not so........

I have about 15 rose of sharon bushes that were about 18 inches tall when i planted them 5 years ago?
most of them are 3-4 ft tall now but seem to be getting scraggly what would be a way to get them to green back out and have a better blooming season? they bloom good at the beginning of the year but doesn't last long.

You need to trim them when they stop flowering and let get new grow and maybe some good filler would help..
Reply:i had a real problem with these plants, they even sent runners all over my yard I could hardly keep up with them, but I discovered that they REALLY like water, they would even prefer swampy

I just transplanted 2 rose of sharon bushes about 4 days ago. One is really wilted. Is there anything I can d
One of them is doing really good but one is wilted. Is there anything I can do to help it hang in there. I've kept them watered but not over watered. It is a well drained soil and in full sun. They are about 4 feet apart so I know it's not the location.

There is a product call root stimulant. It is a liquid and you water it in. It helps in the shock of transplant. You can find it at most garden centers. You may want to prune quite a bit. Your objective is to give your plant more roots than plant. It will make it easier to repair itself and snap back. I would not fertilize for about three weeks, you want your bush to regain its strength before it tries to put forth new growth. Pruning really is the trick, it is hard I know because you do not want to loose your size of bush, but it is the best thing you can do for it. Once it snaps back than it will start to grow and you will get the size back. after it has re established fertilize with a food just for roses.
Greenthumb, greenlite, and fertilome are good brands but there are many. If you are not sure just ask you local nursery.
hang in there they will come back
God Bless

Reply:go to you nearest garden center and by some plant food.. that you mix with water and put at base of plant(mix and water plant...)
..it's called Miracle grow
Reply:put mulch around them, at least 2" deep and 6" out from the base. fertilize them. be sure they are some where that they get morning sun so that the dew evaporates quickly
Reply:It may be getting too much water. The other plant may be in a different soil than the one that is wilting. I would suggest to dig it back up and baby it for awhile. Put it in another planter than has been cleaned with bleach and put it in a semi-shady area. Good place would be under another tree in your yard. Good luck?
Reply:I agree with grandma. The root system probably got hurt when you transplanted it. So use some root stimulant, trim the plant back, and keep it well watered but not over-watered. Adding some mulch around the plant should also help by holding the water in longer.

Can I move a Rose of Sharon bush into a sunnier location now in Arkansas? It's about 12 ft. tall, wont' bloom
Possibly you haven't pruned.
To encourage the shrub to produce more flower buds, prune the plant in late winter before it breaks dormancy. For those of you troubled by deer eating your landscape shrubs, they would actually be doing you a favor by gnawing the branches of this one.
Now, growing this shrub does present a few challenges; over the years I have encountered many folks who, come early May, have declared their Rose of Sharon bush dead because there is no sign of greenery. Remember: Mother Nature often throws a curve to test our gardening patience, and the lateness of this shrub to break dormancy is a perfect example of her challenge to us.
Because it blooms so late in the growing season, it figures it can take most of the spring off, so remain patient. It will eventually leaf out in its own time. Go ahead, fertilize as you would any of your other shrubs and then just wait.
One of the most common Rose of Sharon health issues is "Flower Bud Drop." Your shrub may be in bud or full bloom and then the next day the buds/flowers have fallen off. To avoid this, the soil moisture must remain constant; it can't fluctuate excessively between dry and moist. This is why a rich, organic moisture retentive soil is recommende

Quick fix for the bush---you need to trim off the seed pods and then it will bloom---if you leave them on--no blooms.
You need to use clippers don't just pull them off. I had oodles of them in NC and if no trim--no bloom.

Can family heirloom Rose of Sharon survive in las Vegas?
This plant was planted by my husband's Italian grandfather in Buffalo, NY. We brought a segment of it to California and it has grown and thrived, even though we moved it twice. Now its about 6" tall and blooming and we are moving to las Vegas. Can it survive another move, and will it like the Las Vegas soil and heat?
Can family heirloom Rose of Sharon survive in las Vegas?
Congratulations on your move. You are going to love living there.
If I were you, I'd grow the Rose of Sharon in a BIG container with a bag of Miracle-Gro potting-soil-plant food. Mix in water crystals so you don't have to water it so often (be sure to water the soil with the crystals before planting the hibiscus. The crystals need to swell up first). This way you can move it out of the hot sun when needed. At first I'd just give it morning sun.
We have several containers of hibiscus and they do very well. Before the first frost we cut them to the soil line and cover them so the roots won't die. But if you have a nice bright south window, you could put the R.O.S. there in the winter. Don't forget to water it ever so often.

I planted 2 Rose of Sharon Trees in May. The leaves are starting to turn yellow. What am I doing wrong?
The leaves start out with yellow speckles and then turn all yellow. I started watering the trees 5 min each twice a day for 7 days (2 wks) then changed to 5 min/day 6 days a wk. The rest of my new plants seem to be doing OK with this watering schedule. I live in No. Calif. The temps have been running in the mid 80's to low 90's........please help!
I planted 2 Rose of Sharon Trees in May. The leaves are starting to turn yellow. What am I doing wrong?
Way too much water. Let the plants dry out a bit-- let the soil dry out till you can feel moisture in the soil a good 2-3 inches deep.
Rose of Sharon plants are tough plants and can survive in heat once established.
Make sure you aren't over-fertilizing as well- that can cause leaf burn too.
It's better to water in the morning, but if you live in a very hot-dry (low humidity) area, then evenings are fine.
Reply:You may need to purchase a product to spray on the trees that will remove Black Spot Disease. Ortho makes one; ask your local nursery.
I truly believe you are watering your plants a bit too much. Every two days is plenty of water. Please water in the morning rather then the afternoon. Watering in the evening will make it more susceptible to mold.
Reply:too much water.
yellow leaves mean too much water
Brown leaves means not enough
Try miracle grow on the next watering..
and do it less often, and in the evening
Reply:Way to much water. Usually when leaves turn yellow that's a good sign they are being over watered. New plants need a good soaking maybe every other day for a couple of weeks then once a week after that. Stop watering your plants and give them a chance to dry out.
