I have tried the dish soap and water spray and Sevin bug killer. I just can't get rid of them. Any ideas??

Rose of Sharon %26amp; Beeltes?
Your attempts to control the Japanese Beetles with a "contact" insecticide are not the best route to go here. The exoskeleton of this pest is strong and impermeable. You need to attack them from the "inside" out. This means using a "systemic" insecticide one that will enter the foliage of the host plant and kill them from the inside. Go to Walmart, or Home Depot and purchase a product called "Orthene", made by "Ortho". It's one of the best systemic insecticides on the market, and will take care of the beetles. It is a stinky product however (smells like sulfur or rotten eggs) but will work well for you. Follow the application directions for spraying on the foliage. It will be absorbed by the plant and stay readily available in the cell structure for 3 to 4 weeks. Hope this answers your question. Good luck!

http://www.epinions.com/hmgd-Lawn_and_Ga...

http://www.epinions.com/hmgd-review-12E1...

Added info: for the answerer below... Ortho still makes products with orthene besides fire ant killer. Infact the product you call "systemic insect killer" is in fact "Orthene". Orthene is the trade name, and the common name is "acephate" The systemic you mention, contains 8.0% acephate which is the killing ingredient that destroys the nervous system of insects. The same ingredient found in Orthene. Ortho just changed the name to comply with EPA labeling standards. You still can buy Orthene where I'm from however.

**Billy Ray**
Reply:Your very welcome. And thank you, for choosing a best answer. It's always nice when an asker responds back, instead of disappearing from the face of the earth! Report It

Reply:Pattie,

Dish soap works as a contact insecticide that primarily affects soft bodied insects. It will have little to no affect on a hard bodied insect like Japanese Beetle nor does it have any residual benefit.

Sevin is an insecticide that is effective on Japanese Beetles when applied according to the label and has a residual effect. What you will find with sevin is that it must be reapplied after it has been washed from your Rose of Sharon by rain water or overhead irrigation. Also, it breaks down in the sunlight; therefore, it must be reapplied every 5-7 days. Consider a second application per the label.

I must caution against the use of Orthene. The only product sold today by Ortho with Orthene is Ortho® Orthene® Fire Ant Killer1. This product is NOT labeled for the control of Japanese Beetles. To do so is a violation of federal law.

http://www.ortho.com/index.cfm/event/Pro...

Next year consider the use of a systemic like imidacloprid (Bayer Advanced Rose %26amp; Shrub Care). This is a product legally labeled for the control of Japanese Beetle. You apply it to the roots of your Rose of Sharon 2 months before the Japanese Beetles hatch in your area. Imidacloprid is absorbed by the plant's roots and translocated to the leaves. Any Japanese Beetle that takes a bit will die. This product is safe and does not need to be reapplied every time it rains. Nor does it break down in the sunlight while its in the plant leaf.

Ortho also makes a systemic labeled for Japanese Beetle control called: Ortho® Systemic Insect Killer Concentrate. This product evidently works as a contact spray, killing any Japanese Beetles on your plants when sprayed. Its also suppose to be a systemic that is absorbed by the plant foliage; giving you a residual knock-down of Japanese Beetles. I've not tried this prodcut yet, but it may be worth your attention.
Reply:okay here goes and this is a ringer it works !!! mix equal pts dish liquid with equal pts of listerine in a spray bottle . Dig a trench around each tree using a sharp spade to cut the roots cleanly. I'd have the hole for the new location dug so that you could transplant each tree immediately. Plant the trees at the same depth as they were growing and give them adequate water for the first couple of weeks. Mulching will help conserve moisture. you will also need to stake the trees for support the first year.

If you are moving them from a shady to a sunny location, you might want to use some tree wrap to prevent sun scald on the trunk.

Depending on your skill level, you can also rent small tree spades that will make the job much easier, or consider hiring a professional to move them for you. I need to move it soon. When would be the best time to transplant it? Thanks in advance for your thoughtful answers.

When is the best time to transplant a rose of sharon bush?
Hey Susan. If the rose of sharon is still small, less than three or four feet high, you might consider keeping it where it is as long as you can, and transplant it in early fall. If you absolutely can not wait that long, I would transplant it very, very carefully in the early evening hours without the sun overhead, and water it very well that evening. One trick I have used with rose of sharons is a beach umbrella for the next couple days after an emergency transplant...it minimizes the effects of the bright sun on the plant when its root system is healing, and tends to really help the process. Hope this is helpful! I have been growing, grafting and transplanting these beautiful little trees for about twenty years and I love them too.
Reply:The white one with the pink center is a hard-to-find variety sometimes. They spread so well from seed...if you lay a blanket under it in the fall, once the pods dry and shake the bush, you will have a ton of seeds you can plant and get many more! Good luck! Report It

Reply:If you are colder than Zone 6, I'd wait till first thing in the spring. You can cut it back severly then. They bloom on new growth, so next summer you'll still have flowers.
Reply:My rose of sharon is deciduous. So the best time to transplant it would be to wait until all it goes dormant in the fall or winter.
Reply:Old and new Rose-of-Sharon varieties transplant well from containers throughout summer and early fall. They thrive in virtually all soils and prefer full sun for maximum flower production. Moderate to heavy pruning in early spring maintains a tight and tidy shape with lots of flowers.

Bucknerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13064243696601381098noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507462855653863986.post-79847873432882128482011-11-18T01:46:00.001-08:002011-11-18T01:46:16.605-08:00Anyone know the cost of 5yr old Rose of Sharon bush? This seems like an odd question but someone drove through the back of our yard and knocked out at least 5 of our 5 yr old double bloom Rose of Sharon bush's in the hedge. I can't seem to find an estimate for bush's this size and age. They were about 6' tall but we kept them trimmed and in good shape. Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone know the cost of 5yr old Rose of Sharon bush?
Probably that size between $19.00 to $25.00. That is taking into account their size and condition. To be precise, I would suggest that you get an estimate from a bonafide landscaper--you don't have to buy, but at least you'd have a ballpark figure.
Reply:I just heard about them talking about these on the radio today. What time of year do I do that and how do I do it?

How do I root cuttings from a Rose of Sharon bush?
I use root tone and always try to root plants in 3 gallon pots w/ cheap soil as long as you are not rooting plants in a green house. And put them in part shade (morning sun and afternoon shade) till they are rooted and show new growth (6-8 wees minimum). Put 6-7 cuttings per pot. I have a double pink althea and I rooted some babies this way.
Reply:To my knowledge the same way as for any shrub. Use a little rooting hormone specified for hardwood cuttings. Wait until the host plant is showing signs of grown i.e., not dormant. Place in sterilized potting soil out of direct sunlight. Water only to moisten and watch out for fungus which could cause "damping off".

This is a major amount of area to cover.

I did this with hydrangeas with excellent results. My neighbour never prunes the trees to remove the seed pods...so, of course, come spring, I have thousands growing in my lawn. I have tried Round Up, and Killex. Last year I sat down for 8 hours straight and picked them out of my lawn...only removing about 25% of them. (My husband says we should kill the trees!!!!) Any other suggestions?

Whats the best way to get Rose of Sharon seedlings out of lawn?
Legally you can prune back on your side of the fence and remove the seed pods before they fall this fall.

But for right now water the area the seedlings are in, really super soak them until the ground is mushy. Then with a grocery bag on one arm go out and pull each one easily out. I've harvested many Rose of Sharons from my neighbor's yard to give away as gifts to friends and donate to the church for decorations.
Reply:Yikes, I don't envy you that job! The only thing I can think of is maybe putting in some kind of rock garden in that area with a good layer of gravel so that the seedlings can't get a start. Or maybe just lay down some tarp under the tree at night and collect seed that way as it falls. It would at least help you get ahead of the problem. Other than that, probably the most effective thing you could do would be to talk to your neighbor. Ask them to pick the seed pods off the tree and maybe volunteer to help. Or knock off the wilted buds before seed production can begin. Tell him/her they could sell the seeds and make some money? Goodluck with whatever you decide!

Bucknerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13064243696601381098noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507462855653863986.post-1053886655946160242011-11-18T01:45:00.001-08:002011-11-18T01:45:29.523-08:00What is the other name for Rose of Sharon? You can't kill these things. At least I can't. If you need about a hundred small ones, contact me in spring. They come up everywhere !
Reply:"Trim" now. Although hack or butcher might be a more suitable action, since these things are prolific, hardy, and get SO BIG and out of control. Mine is now 10 feet tall and requires a chainsaw on the larger branches. Good luck -- and let me know if you need that chainsaw!
Reply:trim now or else they will die.
Reply:I have been gardening for many years and always trimmed my bushes after they finished flowering, in the fall and this includes my Rose of Sharon. And I agree with the people who say that you just cannot kill it anyway, it is a very tough plant.

But someone told me the other day that if you think about it, it makes sense to trim in the spring because your plants will have less resistance to the cold and rain of the winter if you prune them in the fall. Better leave them get through the winter and trim them early spring when the weather gets warmer and they get less rain, and more sunshine.

I have not made up my mind if I am going to go along with this or not...old habits die hard but this makes sense, so......
Reply:My neighbor is a gardening fanatic and she lived on a farm for 40 years. She went ahead last week and trimmed hers down radically. I trust her judgment on this issue.
Reply:It's always best to trim a flowering shrub right after it finishes blooming and Rose Of Sharon is no exception. Now is the time to trim.
Reply:Do you really think you need to trim it? I have two of them and they are beautiful. Trimming it back isn't going to make that much of a difference. Here is lots of good info for you:

http://www.garden.org/plantguide/index.p...
Reply:Either spring or fall is the perfect time to plant a Rose of Sharon shrub. If you are going to pick this fall, make sure you plant it near Labor Day and water it well. You will want to plant it at this time so that the roots have some time to adjust and grow a bit before the first frost hits. (I also live in Zone 5 and know that frost can come well before Halloween!)

If you decide to wait until spring, my rule of thumb is to wait until Memorial Day at the end of May. It can be hard to wait that long to plant, but because we are in Zone 5 a hard frost can sneak in before Memorial Day, and then all your time and money is lost.
Reply:Since you are in Zone 5 your temps are probably already starting to drop so I would say that it would be okay to plant it now without having to worry about heat shock. Besides, they are very hardy. I have five of them still in their original pots in 100 degree weather for the past two weeks because I haven't had time to plant them and they are fine.

Bucknerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13064243696601381098noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507462855653863986.post-59567665152633142702011-11-18T01:44:00.002-08:002011-11-18T01:44:40.653-08:00In the film silent hill, at the end of the movie when rose and sharon goes home are they really dead?i am in love with this movie! i wanted to make sure are they dead if not are they still in the "other world"? i kind of figure they all died when rose got into the car crash on the highway and along with cybill (the cop) but at the same time i am still thinking when rose and sharon go home at the end...are they still in the "other world" i remember when rose was like dont look at her, close ur eyes...this was when that other girl was coming up towards them. sharon looked right at her and what not...so i think that other girl got inside of sharon...so maybe they are still stuck in the "other world" because of what sharon did....

In the film silent hill, at the end of the movie when rose and sharon goes home are they really dead?
Well, I can always say just play the game, but that would be to long. HIBISCUS ROSE OF SHARON IS WHAT THEY CALL. how do you get rid of them?

How to get rid of a plant call rose of sharon?
the only way to get rid of them is to completely dig them up, roots and all.
Reply:You have to till up the soil and kill the roots if you don't get the roots it will keep coming back. Its a very resilient plant and can stand almost any type of trauma and come back so you need to go in and make sure you get all the roots out. I hope this helps
Reply:follow the second person's advice; dig them up, roots and all. Do not use vinegar in this case! If you can get a tiller in the yard, do so. then every time one sprouts, pull it.; or hire someone to keep at it if you don't want to. Cutting them off will not kill them, only stimulate them. Vinegar won't work well on "woody" plants anyway, only applied directly to leaves of small green weeds, and it must be used with care or you'll kill things and make your soil unable to grow lots of other things.
Reply:It is funny that you are trying to kill them. Where I live people call me begging to know how to keep them alive! Anyway, tilling and vinegar will do no good because it is a woody plant. Use a selective herbicide in the early spring once they have started to grow. Fertilome weed free zone is my favorite, it kills broadleaf plants but not grass. There are many products like it. Look for the word "selective" or "broadleaf weed killer." It does drift so do it on a completely calm day. Any tiny trace of this on a tomato plant could very well kill it. Good luck!
Reply:You could try vinegar. It kills plants. YOu'd have to be carefull with the surrounding plants. It's cheap and safe.
Reply:do not pour vinegar on them this is useless. do not till them up because they grow from the roots and if you till them you will have hundreds of new places for them to grow from. spray the plants in the spring after they have put on a nice leaf but do not wait until the heat of summer sets in and the leaf becomes hard and impervious. use a chemical called remedy or one called crossbow they will kill only the brush but not any grass in your yard.CAUTION THEY BOTH WILL KILL ANY FLOWERS IN YOUR YARD OR YOUR NEIGHBORS SO BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU SPRAY AND WHICH DIRECTION THE WIND IS BLOWING!!! they should both be available at any home and garden store.
Reply:You can waste your time trying to dig them up, but there is a better way. Cut them down to the ground, and drill holes into the main trunks. Pour liquid stump remover into the holes and that will take some time to get rid of them, but it works.

Bucknerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13064243696601381098noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6507462855653863986.post-18892713740571375822011-11-18T01:44:00.000-08:002011-11-18T01:44:09.859-08:00Help! Something is killing my Rose of Sharon!?I have several rose of Sharon plants that I absolutely love. They are all between 2 and 3 years old. Last year, they all bloomed beautifully. A few months ago, they started sprouting their leaves and they were coming in green, thick and healthy. Then, one at a time, each plant's leaves got wilted and fell off. One plant died and when I dug up the dead trunk, there was a long main root, but nothing else. Does anyone know what is causing this? I want to try and save the others but I'm clueless about what is causing the problem. These are potted, so some type of rodent eating the roots seems unlikely, and I haven't used any chemicals or weed killers.

Help! Something is killing my Rose of Sharon!?
At that age, a Rose of Sharon should be in the ground - they probably grew on the top and could not produce adequate roots for to keep a proper balance and prevent dessication (drying out). Rose of Sharon are super hardy but they do have long tap-roots. Also the tap root tends to escape, and they could have soaked up any chemical used to wash or paint the house or the patio they sit on. I think they became desiccated due to lack of root room (for their tap root) or they were poisoned by some chemical that became available on the surface below the pot - I used to clean lots of things on my patio, but when things nearby will absorb the run-off, you need to move to less -sensitive quarters for that. I have a Bozai Rose of Sharon and the tap escapes each year while it sits in the beds outside in it's pot - but I cut the top back severly each time I take it up and have to cut that tap root back, so it has a chance to work. They are also REALLY hardy - treat them like figs and let they have a chance to revive before writing them off - put them all in the ground and let them think about it for a while with a little mild fertilzer - I bet they recover in a few months.
Reply:I would take the dead one to a local nursery. I did that with some leaves from my butterfly bush, and the people there were able to look at it and tell me what the problem was. They also gave me a solution.

Hope that helps...

Sorry about your roses...
Reply:I am in agreement with a-mac. The only way to eliminate the seedlings is remove the seeds from the mother. I suggest careful deadhedding - so to speak - of all seed heads prior to them drying and dropping. You'll have to keep on it, since the flowers mature at a varying rate (ergo the seeds mature at a varying rate). Or you could try an axe to the mother, but that would be such a shame ....
Reply:Ortho's vegetation killer (paraquat or diquat).
Reply:Two are three treatments of Roundup. H. Roberts (1857–1933) of the First Council of the Seventy wrote: “The letter is one of the choicest documents in our church literature; as also it is the earliest published document by the Prophet personally, making any pretension to consecutive narrative of those events in which the great Latter-day work had its origin. … For combining conciseness of statement with comprehensiveness of treatment of the subject with which it deals, it has few equals among historical documents, and certainly none that excel it in our church literature.” 1

March 1, 1842.—At the request of Mr. John Wentworth, editor and proprietor of the Chicago Democrat, I have written the following sketch of the rise, progress, persecution, and faith of the Latter-day Saints, of which I have the honor, under God, of being the founder. Mr. Wentworth says that he wishes to furnish Mr. Bastow [Barstow], a friend of his, who is writing the history of New Hampshire, with this document. As Mr. Bastow has taken the proper steps to obtain correct information, all that I shall ask at his hands is that he publish the account entire, ungarnished, and without misrepresentation.

I was born in the town of Sharon, Windsor County, Vermont, on the 23rd of December, a.d. 1805. When [I was] ten years old, my parents removed to Palmyra, New York, where we resided about four years, and from thence we removed to the town of Manchester. My father was a farmer and taught me the art of husbandry. When about fourteen years of age, I began to reflect upon the importance of being prepared for a future state, and upon inquiring [about] the plan of salvation, I [found] that there was a great clash in religious sentiment. If I went to one society they referred me to one plan, and another to another, each one pointing to his own particular creed as the summum bonum of perfection. Considering that all could not be right, and that God could not be the author of so much confusion, I determined to investigate the subject more fully, believing that if God had a church it would not be split up into factions, and that if He taught one society to worship one way, and administer in one set of ordinances, He would not teach another, principles which were diametrically opposed.

Believing the word of God, I had confidence in the declaration of James—“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” [James 1:5]. I retired to a secret place in a grove and began to call upon the Lord. While fervently engaged in supplication, my mind was taken away from the objects with which I was surrounded, and I was enwrapped in a heavenly vision and saw two glorious personages, who exactly resembled each other in features and likeness, surrounded with a brilliant light which eclipsed the sun at noonday. They told me that all religious denominations were believing in incorrect doctrines and that none of them was acknowledged of God as His Church and kingdom; and I was expressly commanded “to go not after them,” at the same time receiving a promise that the fullness of the gospel should at some future time be made known unto me.

On the evening [of] the 21st of September, a.d. 1823, while I was praying unto God and endeavoring to exercise faith in the precious promises of scripture, on a sudden a light like that of day, only of a far purer and more glorious appearance and brightness, burst into the room. Indeed the first sight was as though the house was filled with consuming fire. The appearance produced a shock that affected the whole body. In a moment a personage stood before me, surrounded with a glory yet greater than that with which I was already surrounded. This messenger proclaimed himself to be an angel of God, sent to bring the joyful tidings that the covenant which God made with ancient Israel was at hand to be fulfilled; that the preparatory work for the second coming of the Messiah was speedily to commence; that the time was at hand for the gospel in all its fulness to be preached in power unto all nations, that a people might be prepared for the millennial reign. I was informed that I was chosen to be an instrument in the hands of God to bring about some of His purposes in this glorious dispensation.

I was also informed concerning the aboriginal inhabitants of this country [America] and shown who they were, and from whence they came; a brief sketch of their origin, progress, civilization, laws, governments, of their righteousness and iniquity, and the blessings of God being finally withdrawn from them as a people, was [also] made known unto me; I was also told where were deposited some plates on which were engraven an abridgment of the records of the ancient prophets that had existed on this continent. The angel appeared to me three times the same night and unfolded the same things. After having received many visits from the angels of God, unfolding the majesty and glory of the events that should transpire in the last days, on the morning of the 22nd of September, a.d. 1827, the angel of the Lord delivered the records into my hands.

These records were engraven on plates which had the appearance of gold. Each plate was six inches wide and eight inches long, and not quite so thick as common tin. They were filled with engravings, in Egyptian characters, and bound together in a volume as the leaves of a book, with three rings running through the whole. The volume was something near six inches in thickness, a part of which was sealed. The characters on the unsealed part were small, and beautifully engraved. The whole book exhibited many marks of antiquity in its construction and much skill in the art of engraving. With the records was found a curious instrument, which the ancients called “Urim and Thummim,” which consisted of two transparent stones set in the rims of a bow fastened to a breastplate. Through the medium of the Urim and Thummim I translated the record by the gift and power of God.

In this important and interesting book the history of ancient America is unfolded, from its first settlement by a colony that came from the Tower of Babel at the confusion of languages to the beginning of the fifth century of the Christian era. We are informed by these records that America in ancient times has been inhabited by two distinct races of people. The first were called Jaredites and came directly from the Tower of Babel. The second race came directly from the city of Jerusalem about six hundred years before Christ. They were principally Israelites of the descendants of Joseph. The Jaredites were destroyed about the time that the Israelites came from Jerusalem, who succeeded them in the inheritance of the country. The principal nation of the second race fell in battle towards the close of the fourth century. The remnant are the Indians that now inhabit this country. This book also tells us that our Savior made His appearance upon this continent after His Resurrection; that He planted the gospel here in all its fulness, and richness, and power, and blessing; that they had apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, and evangelists—the same order, the same priesthood, the same ordinances, gifts, powers, and blessings, as were enjoyed on the eastern continent; that the people were cut off in consequence of their transgressions; that the last of their prophets who existed among them was commanded to write an abridgment of their prophecies, history, etc., and to hide it up in the earth; and that it should come forth and be united with the Bible for the accomplishment of the purposes of God in the last days. For a more particular account I would refer to the Book of Mormon, which can be purchased at Nauvoo, or from any of our traveling elders.

As soon as the news of this discovery was made known, false reports, misrepresentation, and slander flew, as on the wings of the wind, in every direction; the house was frequently beset by mobs and evil designing people. Several times I was shot at, and very narrowly escaped, and every device was made use of to get the plates away from me; but the power and blessing of God attended me, and several began to believe my testimony.

On the 6th of April 1830, the “Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” was first organized in the town of Fayette, Seneca County, state of New York. Some few were called and ordained by the spirit of revelation and prophecy and began to preach as the Spirit gave them utterance. And though weak, yet were they strengthened by the power of God; and many were brought to repentance, were immersed in the water, and were filled with the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands. They saw visions and prophesied, devils were cast out, and the sick healed by the laying on of hands. From that time the work rolled forth with astonishing rapidity, and churches were formed in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. In the last-named state a considerable settlement was formed in Jackson County. Numbers joined the Church, and we were increasing rapidly. We made large purchases of land; our farms teemed with plenty; and peace and happiness were enjoyed in our domestic circle and throughout our neighborhood. But as we could not associate with our neighbors (who were, many of them, of the basest of men, and had fled from the face of civilized society to the frontier country to escape the hand of justice) in their midnight revels, their Sabbath breaking, horse racing, and gambling, they commenced at first to ridicule, then to persecute, and finally an organized mob assembled and burned our houses, tarred and feathered and whipped many of our brethren, and finally, contrary to law, justice, and humanity, drove them from their habitations, who, houseless and homeless, had to wander on the bleak prairies till the children left the tracks of their blood on the prairie. This took place in the month of November, and they had no other covering but the canopy of heaven. In this inclement season of the year this proceeding was winked at by the government, and although we had warranty deeds for our land, and had violated no law, we could obtain no redress.

There were many sick who were thus inhumanly driven from their houses, and had to endure all this abuse and to seek homes where they could be found. The result was that a great many of them, being deprived of the comforts of life and the necessary attendances, died; many children were left orphans, wives [were left] widows, and husbands, widowers; our farms were taken possession of by the mob; many thousands of cattle, sheep, horses, and hogs were taken; and our household goods, store goods, and printing press and type were broken, taken, or otherwise destroyed.

Many of our brethren removed to Clay County, where they continued until 1836, three years; there was no violence offered but there were threatenings of violence. But in the summer of 1836 these threatenings began to assume a more serious form. From threats, public meetings were called, resolutions were passed, vengeance and destruction were threatened, and affairs again assumed a fearful attitude. Jackson County was a sufficient precedent, and as the authorities in that county did not interfere, they [the Clay County authorities] boasted that they would not [interfere] in this, which on application to the authorities, we found to be too true; and after much privation and loss of property, we were again driven from our homes.

We next settled in Caldwell and Daviess Counties, where we made large and extensive settlements, thinking to free ourselves from the power of oppression by settling in new counties with very few inhabitants in them. But here we were [also] not allowed to live in peace, but in 1838 we were again attacked by mobs, an exterminating order was issued by Governor Boggs, and under the sanction of law an organized banditti ranged through the country, robbed us of our cattle, sheep, hogs, etc., many of our people were murdered in cold blood, the chastity of our women was violated, and we were forced to sign away our property at the point of the sword. And after enduring every indignity that could be heaped upon us by an inhuman, ungodly band of marauders, from twelve to fifteen thousand souls, men, women, and children were driven from their own firesides, and from lands to which they had warrantee deeds—houseless, friendless, and homeless (in the depths of winter) to wander as exiles on the earth, or to seek an asylum in a more genial clime, and among a less barbarous people. Many sickened and died in consequence of the cold and hardships they had to endure. Many wives were left widows, and children [were left] orphans and destitute. It would take more time than is allotted me here to describe the injustice, the wrongs, the murders, the bloodshed, the theft, misery, and woe that have been caused by the barbarous, inhuman, and lawless proceedings of the state of Missouri.

In the situation before alluded to, we arrived in the state of Illinois in 1839, where we found a hospitable people and a friendly home, a people who were willing to be governed by the principles of law and humanity. We have commenced to build a city called “Nauvoo” in Hancock County. We number from six to eight thousand here, besides vast numbers in the county around and in almost every county of the state. We have a city charter granted us and [a] charter for a [military] legion, the troops of which now number 1,500. We have also a charter for a university, for an agricultural and manufacturing society; [we] have our own laws and administrators and possess all the privileges that other free and enlightened citizens enjoy.

Persecution has not stopped the progress of truth, but has only added fuel to the flame. It has spread with increasing rapidity. Proud of the cause which they have espoused and conscious of our innocence and of the truth of their system, amidst calumny and reproach, have the elders of this Church gone forth and planted the gospel in almost every state in the Union. It has penetrated our cities; it has spread over our villages and has caused thousands of our intelligent, noble, and patriotic citizens to obey its divine mandates and be governed by its sacred truths. It has also spread into England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, where, in the year 1840, a few of our missionaries were sent, and over five thousand joined the Standard of Truth; there are numbers now joining in every land.

Our missionaries are going forth to different nations, and in Germany, Palestine, New Holland, Australia, the East Indies, and other places, the Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear; till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.

[The Articles of Faith]

We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.

We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on [of] hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. However, Mormons do not believe that the "God" of the so-called "New Testament" is the same "God" of the so-called "Old Testament"; Mormonism teaches that the pre-human Jesus is the "God" or "Jehovah" of the so-called "Old Testament".

This is obviously a fundamentally different theology than the other great nontrinitarian Christian religion, Jehovah's Witnesses. Jehovah's Witnesses believe the bible to teach that there are several references to Jesus in the so-called "Old Testament" which indicate that he is distinct from the "God" or "Jehovah" of the so-called "Old Testament". It is not enough to simply assert that a doctrine is true, and so Jehovah's Witnesses reason from the Scriptures on the matter...

It seems rather obvious that the apostle Luke at Acts 4:25-27 quotes from Psalms 2:1,2. Although these passages are part of the Christian and Hebrew Scriptures respectively, BOTH passages make it plain that there is an "anointed one" who is distinct from God. The Psalm plains calls that God by the name "Jehovah" (explicitly using the Tetragrammaton) and Acts plainly calls the anointed one by the name "Jesus".

(Psalm 2:1,2) [David wrote] Why have the nations been in tumult and the national groups themselves kept muttering an empty thing? 2 The kings of earth take their stand And high officials themselves have massed together as one against Jehovah and against his anointed one

(Acts 4:24-27) [Peter, John, and fellow Christians] with one accord raised their voices to God and said: “Sovereign Lord, you are the One who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all the things in them, 25 and who through holy spirit said by the mouth of our forefather David, your servant, ‘Why did nations become tumultuous and peoples meditate upon empty things? 26 The kings of the earth took their stand and the rulers massed together as one against Jehovah and against his anointed one.’ 27 Even so, both Herod and Pontius Pilate with men of nations and with peoples of Israel were in actuality gathered together in this city against your holy servant Jesus

Similarly, the apostle Paul at 1 Cor 2:16 and Rom 11:33,34 paraphrases Isaiah 40:13. James Talmage's exposition/elaboration on the Articles is essential reading for any LDS member.

One one level, the Articles define faith, but on a deeper level, they teach one to quicken (in the archaic sense) their experience of faith. This is why those who magnify priesthood and relief callings tend to develop strong spiritual muscles and minds...
Reply:I answered the first question you asked. The cardinal doctrines of faith do not reflect the teachings of the Bible or the Book of Mormon.

The book of Hebrews tells us that the priesthood is a false restoration and not a true one.
Reply:I'd say Mormons have some serious doctrinal problems, starting with Galatians 1:8, which warns about receiving "another gospel" including one from an angel (in the case of Mormonism, from the angel Moroni). Lewis Libby - Chief of Staff to the Vice President, should be tried for treason for exposing Valerie Plame, a CIA agent, Elliott Abrams , an Israeli- now Director of the National Security Council's Office for Near East affairs, that's the office overseeing the U.S. Middle East policy. Abrams' appointment is viewed as "a gift from heaven" for 'Israel.' , Douglas Feith an Israeli, was Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, and was responsible for making up the big lies about Iraq buying Uranium from Africa, very close to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Michael Chertoff Homeland Security Secretary, Allen Greenspan, Federal Reserve Chairman, a private firm that controls ALL financial aspects of the country, and many, many more. You can see some of them in this partial list. Add to that, most Ambassadors to Europe and to countries that count, plus most advisors on the National Security Council and other sensitive government positions. This gang and others were the ones who conned America into going to war against Iraq for Israel...

Senator William Fullbright of Arkansas who served until 1975 said, " Israel controls the United States Senate. Around 80 percent are completely in support of Israel; what Israel wants it gets. Jewish influence in the House of Representatives is even greater." This was back in the Seventies, now they wield partial to total control over 95 Senators and all 435 members of the House except maybe 23. Listen to Admiral Thomas Moorer, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: " I've never seen a President- I don't care who he is- stand up to them. They always get what they want, If the American people understood what a grip these people have got on our government, they would rise up in arms." Paul Findley, a US Congressman for 22 years noted on the subject that:

"Israel is able to stifle free speech, control our Congress, and even dictate our foreign policy."

Is there a Zionist influence on American Foreign Policy?
Question for Vanessa: what has IRAQ ever doen to the United States? Bush's policies, braking the rise of emissions rather than cutting them, were working.

"The President has put in place a comprehensive set of policies to address what he has called the 'serious challenge' of climate change," Sharon Hays, Associate Director of the White House Office of Science %26amp; Technology Policy, told Reuters. They are making fun of us...
Reply:I don't believe a D*MN thing that comes out of the man's mouth! He's done so much back peddling we lost count of how times he's lapped himself! He said he didn't believe in it NOW he's setting up policies.
Reply:Hey, George is doing his part. All of the Iraqis he has killed off and the infrastructure that has been destroyed has lowered the Iraqi's emmissions significantly.
Reply:Its funny. If Bush went along with the Kyoto Treaty, thousands would lose their jobs and People wouldve been complaining about that. American business wouldve been made weaker and the economy wouldve suffered for it and people wouldve complained.

Instead Bush wants Policies that enhance alternate Enviro Friendly businesses without Hurting american interests. He has done more for Expanding the use of alternate environmental friendly fuels than any other US president and has maintained a strong economy yet still people complain.
Reply:No it is not the ultimate spin.
Reply:So far, all the president has done is talk a lot. The only effect, so far, is a slight increase in hot air coming from his mouth. It may not be the ultimate spin, but it is spin nonetheless.
Reply:Yeah, that's certainly news to me! I guess that's why Bushy Boy is still making deals with oil companies and big business.
Reply:The faster we can get rid this fading generation from power the faster we can move ahead.
Reply:What spin? The president has made scrubbers mandatory in factory smoke stacks, he has place a lot of money into research of batteries which has led to the release of hybrid cars in this country, there has been an expansion of E-85 pumps. He has done things for the environment, the amount of pollution the US puts out is dropping. But I guess blind hatred makes it to where people refuse to see the good of someone else.
Reply:No, the ultimate spin is a report that says global warming is "likely" caused by man.

And then positions itself as definitive fact...rather than a theory.
Reply:Humans create pollution. Not to mention, I almost see steam rising from my tv everytime they are in the same room...plus I think Brad and Sharon would be good together!

Y%26amp;R fans....who else is pulling for Nick and Phyllis?
I think Nick and Phyllis make a wonderful couple they compliment each other quite well. as far as Sharon, she still acts like a teenager and has never grown up they way she acts honestly what she gets is what she deserves. and Brad would be smart to stay clear of her!!!
Reply:I totally agree! Nick and Phyliss should hook up again. I love their chemistry. Sharon can be with whoever she wants. I really want Nick for myself. That is one very hot white guy!
Reply:I agree Nick and Phyllis all the way
Reply:Nick and Phyllis all the way,BUT I heard Phyllis is leaving the leaving the show.

go sharon and Brad, victoria and brad have 0 chemistry. I've watched y%26amp;r for MANY years, and Sharon and nick have outlasted most
Reply:I love Nick %26amp; Phyllis together!!! Personally I"d like her to share him with me. I have loved him ever since he was cast! Sharon and Brad make more sense these days. Sharon and Nick's relationship is old and washed up. Too many problems and lies in there past. Cassie's death put the final dent in their marriage. It's soooo time for Nick to leave his boring wife and stir up some steamy trouble with Phyllis

Dental ImplantsBucknerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13064243696601381098noreply@blogger.com0
