When do you prune Rose of Sharon bushes?

I always prune the one at one of my client's house when it is leafless. For us in SoCal that is Jan/Feb. It is easier to do then and never interrupts blooming later. And you can really hack Rose Of Sharon(Hibiscus syriacus) hard. They always snap out of it.

Good luck :-)

I usually trim mine in early spring. I also fertilize them in the spring as soon as I trim them. They are very hardy plants and bounce back quickly after the trim.
Reply:I'd prune it in the fall after all the leaves have fallen off. If you prune it too late in the spring, you might cut off buds.
Reply:I do mine in the fall - but ive got mine as a tree its now 10 yrs old and is about 12 feet high i just pull off the suckers during the spring to summer time to keep it nice - hope this helps..
Reply:I asked this question you are asking...from a nursery...and, they said prune 20 percent in the fall or spring...so it will grow properly...and fully..

good luck
