Can I trim a rose of sharon bush now in the spring?

Yes, but I would wait until the pant is through flowering.

Can I trim a rose of sharon bush now in the spring?
yes,up and till the end of may,the best time is april then you can prune it hard.
Reply:I had two and killed one last year pruning in the spring. My Sunset garden book says it should only be pruned in the fall after flowering. The remaining one I have is already in bloom and I'm in zone 8-9 (San Diego), I pruned it in November and would not risk trimming it now after what happened last year.
Reply:yes but do not remove more than 1/3 of the plant best pruning time would be to wait till after the flowers have bloomed
Reply:I was told to do it in the fall if you need to prune alot. Hard pruning when it has leaves may very well kill it.
Reply:Wait till after it blooms. I usually cut mine back in the fall and I always have lots of blooms the next summer.
Reply:Yes. I don't see why not. It actually might help the bush grow.
