I planted 2 Rose of Sharon Trees in May. The leaves are starting to turn yellow. What am I doing wrong?

The leaves start out with yellow speckles and then turn all yellow. I started watering the trees 5 min each twice a day for 7 days (2 wks) then changed to 5 min/day 6 days a wk. The rest of my new plants seem to be doing OK with this watering schedule. I live in No. Calif. The temps have been running in the mid 80's to low 90's........please help!

Way too much water. Let the plants dry out a bit-- let the soil dry out till you can feel moisture in the soil a good 2-3 inches deep.

Rose of Sharon plants are tough plants and can survive in heat once established.

Make sure you aren't over-fertilizing as well- that can cause leaf burn too.

It's better to water in the morning, but if you live in a very hot-dry (low humidity) area, then evenings are fine.
Reply:You may need to purchase a product to spray on the trees that will remove Black Spot Disease. Ortho makes one; ask your local nursery.

I truly believe you are watering your plants a bit too much. Every two days is plenty of water. Please water in the morning rather then the afternoon. Watering in the evening will make it more susceptible to mold.
Reply:too much water.

yellow leaves mean too much water

Brown leaves means not enough

Try miracle grow on the next watering..

and do it less often, and in the evening
Reply:Way to much water. Usually when leaves turn yellow that's a good sign they are being over watered. New plants need a good soaking maybe every other day for a couple of weeks then once a week after that. Stop watering your plants and give them a chance to dry out.
