Rose of Sharon & Beeltes?

Japanese Beetles are eating the leaves and flowers. I have tried the dish soap and water spray and Sevin bug killer. I just can't get rid of them. Any ideas??

Rose of Sharon %26amp; Beeltes?
Your attempts to control the Japanese Beetles with a "contact" insecticide are not the best route to go here. The exoskeleton of this pest is strong and impermeable. You need to attack them from the "inside" out. This means using a "systemic" insecticide one that will enter the foliage of the host plant and kill them from the inside. Go to Walmart, or Home Depot and purchase a product called "Orthene", made by "Ortho". It's one of the best systemic insecticides on the market, and will take care of the beetles. It is a stinky product however (smells like sulfur or rotten eggs) but will work well for you. Follow the application directions for spraying on the foliage. It will be absorbed by the plant and stay readily available in the cell structure for 3 to 4 weeks. Hope this answers your question. Good luck!

Added info: for the answerer below... Ortho still makes products with orthene besides fire ant killer. Infact the product you call "systemic insect killer" is in fact "Orthene". Orthene is the trade name, and the common name is "acephate" The systemic you mention, contains 8.0% acephate which is the killing ingredient that destroys the nervous system of insects. The same ingredient found in Orthene. Ortho just changed the name to comply with EPA labeling standards. You still can buy Orthene where I'm from however.

Reply:Pattie,

Dish soap works as a contact insecticide that primarily affects soft bodied insects. It will have little to no affect on a hard bodied insect like Japanese Beetle nor does it have any residual benefit.

Sevin is an insecticide that is effective on Japanese Beetles when applied according to the label and has a residual effect. What you will find with sevin is that it must be reapplied after it has been washed from your Rose of Sharon by rain water or overhead irrigation. Also, it breaks down in the sunlight; therefore, it must be reapplied every 5-7 days. Consider a second application per the label.

I must caution against the use of Orthene. The only product sold today by Ortho with Orthene is Ortho® Orthene® Fire Ant Killer1. This product is NOT labeled for the control of Japanese Beetles. To do so is a violation of federal law.

http://www.ortho.com/index.cfm/event/Pro...

Next year consider the use of a systemic like imidacloprid (Bayer Advanced Rose %26amp; Shrub Care). This is a product legally labeled for the control of Japanese Beetle. You apply it to the roots of your Rose of Sharon 2 months before the Japanese Beetles hatch in your area. Imidacloprid is absorbed by the plant's roots and translocated to the leaves. Any Japanese Beetle that takes a bit will die. This product is safe and does not need to be reapplied every time it rains. Nor does it break down in the sunlight while its in the plant leaf.

Ortho also makes a systemic labeled for Japanese Beetle control called: Ortho® Systemic Insect Killer Concentrate. This product evidently works as a contact spray, killing any Japanese Beetles on your plants when sprayed. Its also suppose to be a systemic that is absorbed by the plant foliage; giving you a residual knock-down of Japanese Beetles. I've not tried this prodcut yet, but it may be worth your attention.
Reply:okay here goes and this is a ringer it works !!! mix equal pts dish liquid with equal pts of listerine in a spray bottle . It works like a charm . good luck .

Rose of Sharon hedge, your thoughts, especially if you have a RoS hedge.?

I am wondering about the pros and cons, if any. Why you chose them, any special care, anything you would like to add. Thanks.

Rose of Sharon hedge, your thoughts, especially if you have a RoS hedge.?
It's deciduous, fairly sturdy (zones 5-9), can get 8'-10' tall and have a spread of 4'-6'.

some stay shorter (Hibiscus syriacus 'Minerva' reaches only 5'-8'). Blooms on rose of sharon can be white, red, lavender or light blue; some have double blooms. Most rose of sharon bushes bear small, deeply-lobed, light-green leaves.

for R%26amp;S : The name first appears in 1611, when it was used in the King James Version of the Bible. According to an annotation at Song of Solomon 2.1 by the translation committee of the New Revised Standard Version, this is a mistranslation of the Hebrew word for "crocus".

scholars have suggested that the biblical "Rose of Sharon" is one of the following plants:

a kind of crocus. a tulip, or even the madonna, though more likely in reference to the "lily of the valleys" mentioned in the second part of Song of Solomon 2.1.
Reply:I don't know what this is about, but thanks for the 2 points.
Reply:Considering this is religion and spirituality, you may wish to pray, chant, meditate or perform some kind of voodoo to care for it. Other than that, try posting in the right section for more physical care instructions.

Just for grins and giggles, here's the wikipedia page on the flower:
Reply:My rose of sharon did fine in direct, hot southern sun and came back after two winter freezes. It also grew very quickly so I had to move it to a location where it had more room. Even when it was only 2 feet tall it bloomed twice every year, and I used fertilizer once a year on it and left it alone.
Reply:Big bee attractor.
Reply:It is a Hibiscus. Malvaceae family, Deciduous. They are good plants, though subject to whitefly and many other insects. It seems that every bug and mollusk wants to eat it. Nice flower though.
Reply:Wrong section.

My parents grew them. The only problem my parents had was they got too big and grew into the neighbors yard.

Rose of Sharon hedge, your thoughts, pros and cons please.?
Hardy little trees, come in a wealth of colors and bloom like crazy--for best results trim in the fall and cut off all seed pods to maintain bloom. You can also start more from cuttings taken in the fall and pushed into the ground or from seed. I had lavender, white, white with red centers and a light pink in NC and also ID.
Reply:I was actually named after this plant :-)

I had a ros hedge in PA, didn't need it to screen anything, so I absolutely loved it.

Not sure what you are looking for in a hedge, but here are my thoughts on ros as a hedge:

Pros:

Beautiful flowers.

Hardy plants.

Cons:

Relatively slow growing, won't fill in as fast.

Deciduous, so no leaves in the winter.

If you want a hedge for screening, I would go with something evergreen. Hollies are one idea. Arborvitae are good also.

If you don't necessarily need good screening, then try the ros.

Here is one website I found about hedges:

http://landscaping.about.com/od/hedgesfe...

Good luck!
Reply:I have my back 6' fence lined with rose of sharon and they are beautiful! Mine have flowers that are white with red centers and they bloom all summer long. Also, they are sturdy and require little care. Mine are mature and at about 8' , with medium density. Their shape is loose and unstructured, with branches gently bowing out into the yard and over the fence. It's a real treat to see the flowers blooming and adding color when many of my flowers have packed up in the summer heat. Also they are evergreen in my zone (7b). Pretty drought tolerant, too.

Cons: really, none I can think of. I think they are better in bunches than as a specimen plant. For that I'd choose a butterfly bush! JMO.... ;)
Reply:I don't have one but I want one really bad and plan to put some in hopefully soon. My neighbor had one that I loved but he cut it down. I was sad. I like them because they grow nice and high and have the beautiful flowers on them all summer.

Can root hormone mixed with water be poured on the ground around a rose of sharon bush that was dug and plant?

a rose of sharon bush was dug up and planted in another place, can i mix root hormone in water and pour on the ground around the bush to help it root better?

Can root hormone mixed with water be poured on the ground around a rose of sharon bush that was dug and plant?
You need to scrape some of the roots with a knife to scrape off some of the skin exposing the insides. Then wet the roots. Then powder on the rooting hormone. The scraping of the roots first activates the root and encourages it to grow, just be sure to scrape it and not peel it!
Reply:I don't think so. I believe rooting hormone has to be applied directly to the plant surface to promote root formation.

Best wishes and God bless.
Reply:You can do that, nobody's stopping you.
Reply:If I'm not mistaken...which I may be...I believe root hormone is a white powder like substance which is to be applied to a cut plant (such as a rose) in order to influence root growth or the starting of a root??? I am not sure if it will have any effect if it is mixed with water and then poured over soil?? I do believe, however, that if that would work it would say so on the packaging.

Lord Jesus, my sweet Rose of Sharon,

My Prophet, my Priest, and my King—

To Thee I will sing all my praises,

For blessings Thy mercy doth bring.

All glory and honor to Jesus,

Who offered His life on the cross,

To open a fountain for sinners,

And purchase a world that was lost.

Refrain:

Sweet Rose of Sharon,

Blooming above for me.

Oh, come help me sing of my Savior,

For He is the joy of my heart;

Come join in His service forever,

He will His rich graces impart.

I gaze at the wounds of my Savior,

From which that great fountain doth flow;

His word is my shield and my buckler,

By faith I’m made whiter than snow.

In love’s verdant vale I am resting,

In Christ all my hope I confide;

My heart and my life He is blessing,

As humbly I walk by His side.

I’m living low down in the valley,

Where sweet Rose of Sharon doth bloom;

Oh, glory! its heavenly odor

With fragrance my soul doth perfume.

Come, sinner, thy heart like the desert,

With sweet Rose of Sharon shall bloom;

’Twill blossom as flowers of summer,

His Spirit thy heart shall illume.

He paid all thy debt on Mount Calv’ry,

He suffered that you might be free;

Oh, look, guilty one, there is mercy,

There’s life and salvation for thee.

When is the best time to transplant a rose of sharon bush ?
The best time to transplant bushes and trees is in the fall after leaves have dropped or in the spring before they have started to bud.

For trees of your size, I'd keep a 2-3 foot root ball. Dig a trench around each tree using a sharp spade to cut the roots cleanly. I'd have the hole for the new location dug so that you could transplant each tree immediately. Plant the trees at the same depth as they were growing and give them adequate water for the first couple of weeks. Mulching will help conserve moisture. you will also need to stake the trees for support the first year.

If you are moving them from a shady to a sunny location, you might want to use some tree wrap to prevent sun scald on the trunk.

Depending on your skill level, you can also rent small tree spades that will make the job much easier, or consider hiring a professional to move them for you. These are relatively fast growing trees, so you may want to consider starting over with smaller specimens if this is too much work for you.

When is the best time to transplant a rose of sharon bush?

A most beautiful rose of sharon decided to grow too close to the foundation of the house. I need to move it soon. When would be the best time to transplant it? Thanks in advance for your thoughtful answers.

When is the best time to transplant a rose of sharon bush?
Hey Susan. If the rose of sharon is still small, less than three or four feet high, you might consider keeping it where it is as long as you can, and transplant it in early fall. If you absolutely can not wait that long, I would transplant it very, very carefully in the early evening hours without the sun overhead, and water it very well that evening. One trick I have used with rose of sharons is a beach umbrella for the next couple days after an emergency transplant...it minimizes the effects of the bright sun on the plant when its root system is healing, and tends to really help the process. Hope this is helpful! I have been growing, grafting and transplanting these beautiful little trees for about twenty years and I love them too.
Reply:The white one with the pink center is a hard-to-find variety sometimes. They spread so well from seed...if you lay a blanket under it in the fall, once the pods dry and shake the bush, you will have a ton of seeds you can plant and get many more! Good luck! Report It

Reply:If you are colder than Zone 6, I'd wait till first thing in the spring. You can cut it back severly then. They bloom on new growth, so next summer you'll still have flowers.
Reply:My rose of sharon is deciduous. So the best time to transplant it would be to wait until all it goes dormant in the fall or winter.
Reply:Old and new Rose-of-Sharon varieties transplant well from containers throughout summer and early fall. They thrive in virtually all soils and prefer full sun for maximum flower production. Moderate to heavy pruning in early spring maintains a tight and tidy shape with lots of flowers.

Anyone know the cost of 5yr old Rose of Sharon bush?

This seems like an odd question but someone drove through the back of our yard and knocked out at least 5 of our 5 yr old double bloom Rose of Sharon bush's in the hedge. I can't seem to find an estimate for bush's this size and age. They were about 6' tall but we kept them trimmed and in good shape. Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone know the cost of 5yr old Rose of Sharon bush?
Probably that size between $19.00 to $25.00. That is taking into account their size and condition. To be precise, I would suggest that you get an estimate from a bonafide landscaper--you don't have to buy, but at least you'd have a ballpark figure.
Reply:I just heard about them talking about these on the radio today. They said they are very popular and at most garden stores so I wouldn't think they would be too pricey.

I just found a small tree online for $9.99. I don't know if they sell them 6' tall or if you have to let them grow that big. Good luck!
Reply:When I carry them in my place of business I sell them for $19.99. They are about a seven gallon container and between five to six foot tall.

How do I root cuttings from a Rose of Sharon bush?

I have several very large White Rose of Sharon bushes here in Georgia, USA and want to make a 600 foot long property division fence using cuttings from the bushes. What time of year do I do that and how do I do it?

How do I root cuttings from a Rose of Sharon bush?
I use root tone and always try to root plants in 3 gallon pots w/ cheap soil as long as you are not rooting plants in a green house. And put them in part shade (morning sun and afternoon shade) till they are rooted and show new growth (6-8 wees minimum). Put 6-7 cuttings per pot. I have a double pink althea and I rooted some babies this way.
Reply:To my knowledge the same way as for any shrub. Use a little rooting hormone specified for hardwood cuttings. Wait until the host plant is showing signs of grown i.e., not dormant. Place in sterilized potting soil out of direct sunlight. Water only to moisten and watch out for fungus which could cause "damping off".

This is a major amount of area to cover.

I did this with hydrangeas with excellent results. But I only wanted about 20 plants.

Good luck.

Whats the best way to get Rose of Sharon seedlings out of lawn?

I have a neighbour with 2 Rose of Sharon trees next to the fence that we share. My neighbour never prunes the trees to remove the seed pods...so, of course, come spring, I have thousands growing in my lawn. I have tried Round Up, and Killex. Last year I sat down for 8 hours straight and picked them out of my lawn...only removing about 25% of them. (My husband says we should kill the trees!!!!) Any other suggestions?

Whats the best way to get Rose of Sharon seedlings out of lawn?
Legally you can prune back on your side of the fence and remove the seed pods before they fall this fall.

But for right now water the area the seedlings are in, really super soak them until the ground is mushy. Then with a grocery bag on one arm go out and pull each one easily out. I've harvested many Rose of Sharons from my neighbor's yard to give away as gifts to friends and donate to the church for decorations.
Reply:Yikes, I don't envy you that job! The only thing I can think of is maybe putting in some kind of rock garden in that area with a good layer of gravel so that the seedlings can't get a start. Or maybe just lay down some tarp under the tree at night and collect seed that way as it falls. It would at least help you get ahead of the problem. Other than that, probably the most effective thing you could do would be to talk to your neighbor. Ask them to pick the seed pods off the tree and maybe volunteer to help. Or knock off the wilted buds before seed production can begin. Tell him/her they could sell the seeds and make some money? Goodluck with whatever you decide!

When do you trim a 'rose of sharon' bush?

i would like to know if i can trim my rose of sharon bush now or if i should wait till the spring?

When do you trim a 'rose of sharon' bush?
Trim now. You can't kill these things. At least I can't. If you need about a hundred small ones, contact me in spring. They come up everywhere !
Reply:"Trim" now. Although hack or butcher might be a more suitable action, since these things are prolific, hardy, and get SO BIG and out of control. Mine is now 10 feet tall and requires a chainsaw on the larger branches. Good luck -- and let me know if you need that chainsaw!
Reply:trim now or else they will die.
Reply:I have been gardening for many years and always trimmed my bushes after they finished flowering, in the fall and this includes my Rose of Sharon. And I agree with the people who say that you just cannot kill it anyway, it is a very tough plant.

But someone told me the other day that if you think about it, it makes sense to trim in the spring because your plants will have less resistance to the cold and rain of the winter if you prune them in the fall. Better leave them get through the winter and trim them early spring when the weather gets warmer and they get less rain, and more sunshine.

I have not made up my mind if I am going to go along with this or not...old habits die hard but this makes sense, so......
Reply:My neighbor is a gardening fanatic and she lived on a farm for 40 years. She went ahead last week and trimmed hers down radically. I trust her judgment on this issue.
Reply:It's always best to trim a flowering shrub right after it finishes blooming and Rose Of Sharon is no exception. Now is the time to trim.
Reply:Do you really think you need to trim it? I have two of them and they are beautiful. Trimming it back isn't going to make that much of a difference. Why not let it go and see just how beautiful it is next year?

Best time to plant a Rose of Sharon Bush in zone 5?

When is the best time to plant a Rose of Sharon bush/tree in zone 5?

Best time to plant a Rose of Sharon Bush in zone 5?
Spring or fall. Here is lots of good info for you:

http://www.garden.org/plantguide/index.p...
Reply:Either spring or fall is the perfect time to plant a Rose of Sharon shrub. If you are going to pick this fall, make sure you plant it near Labor Day and water it well. You will want to plant it at this time so that the roots have some time to adjust and grow a bit before the first frost hits. (I also live in Zone 5 and know that frost can come well before Halloween!)

If you decide to wait until spring, my rule of thumb is to wait until Memorial Day at the end of May. It can be hard to wait that long to plant, but because we are in Zone 5 a hard frost can sneak in before Memorial Day, and then all your time and money is lost.
Reply:Since you are in Zone 5 your temps are probably already starting to drop so I would say that it would be okay to plant it now without having to worry about heat shock. Besides, they are very hardy. I have five of them still in their original pots in 100 degree weather for the past two weeks because I haven't had time to plant them and they are fine.

In the film silent hill, at the end of the movie when rose and sharon goes home are they really dead?

i am in love with this movie! i wanted to make sure are they dead if not are they still in the "other world"? i kind of figure they all died when rose got into the car crash on the highway and along with cybill (the cop) but at the same time i am still thinking when rose and sharon go home at the end...are they still in the "other world" i remember when rose was like dont look at her, close ur eyes...this was when that other girl was coming up towards them. sharon looked right at her and what not...so i think that other girl got inside of sharon...so maybe they are still stuck in the "other world" because of what sharon did....

In the film silent hill, at the end of the movie when rose and sharon goes home are they really dead?
Well, I can always say just play the game, but that would be to long. Anyway, no they are not dead. What happen is that the little girl that Rose's daughter look at took possession of her and enters her subconscious mind.

When they actually returned to the home they are still in the other world. The game will actually explain everything.
Reply:I haven't seen the movie... but the game ROCKED!!!

If going by what the game portrayed (and i hope the movie was True to the game) they are not dead. but rose is 'renewed' and does not have the demonic powers any more.
Reply:I think they were trapped in the other world that the burned up little girl had created.
Reply:They're dead.
Reply:i don't think they were i didn't get to see the end

How to get rid of a plant call rose of sharon?

we have this plant all over our backyard we cut them down but they grow back ever year. HIBISCUS ROSE OF SHARON IS WHAT THEY CALL. how do you get rid of them?

How to get rid of a plant call rose of sharon?
the only way to get rid of them is to completely dig them up, roots and all.
Reply:You have to till up the soil and kill the roots if you don't get the roots it will keep coming back. Its a very resilient plant and can stand almost any type of trauma and come back so you need to go in and make sure you get all the roots out. I hope this helps
Reply:follow the second person's advice; dig them up, roots and all. Do not use vinegar in this case! If you can get a tiller in the yard, do so. then every time one sprouts, pull it.; or hire someone to keep at it if you don't want to. Cutting them off will not kill them, only stimulate them. Vinegar won't work well on "woody" plants anyway, only applied directly to leaves of small green weeds, and it must be used with care or you'll kill things and make your soil unable to grow lots of other things.
Reply:It is funny that you are trying to kill them. Where I live people call me begging to know how to keep them alive! Anyway, tilling and vinegar will do no good because it is a woody plant. Use a selective herbicide in the early spring once they have started to grow. Fertilome weed free zone is my favorite, it kills broadleaf plants but not grass. There are many products like it. Look for the word "selective" or "broadleaf weed killer." It does drift so do it on a completely calm day. Any tiny trace of this on a tomato plant could very well kill it. Good luck!
Reply:You could try vinegar. It kills plants. YOu'd have to be carefull with the surrounding plants. It's cheap and safe.
Reply:do not pour vinegar on them this is useless. do not till them up because they grow from the roots and if you till them you will have hundreds of new places for them to grow from. spray the plants in the spring after they have put on a nice leaf but do not wait until the heat of summer sets in and the leaf becomes hard and impervious. use a chemical called remedy or one called crossbow they will kill only the brush but not any grass in your yard.CAUTION THEY BOTH WILL KILL ANY FLOWERS IN YOUR YARD OR YOUR NEIGHBORS SO BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU SPRAY AND WHICH DIRECTION THE WIND IS BLOWING!!! they should both be available at any home and garden store.
Reply:You can waste your time trying to dig them up, but there is a better way. Cut them down to the ground, and drill holes into the main trunks. Pour liquid stump remover into the holes and that will take some time to get rid of them, but it works.

Help! Something is killing my Rose of Sharon!?

I have several rose of Sharon plants that I absolutely love. They are all between 2 and 3 years old. Last year, they all bloomed beautifully. A few months ago, they started sprouting their leaves and they were coming in green, thick and healthy. Then, one at a time, each plant's leaves got wilted and fell off. One plant died and when I dug up the dead trunk, there was a long main root, but nothing else. Does anyone know what is causing this? I want to try and save the others but I'm clueless about what is causing the problem. These are potted, so some type of rodent eating the roots seems unlikely, and I haven't used any chemicals or weed killers.

Help! Something is killing my Rose of Sharon!?
At that age, a Rose of Sharon should be in the ground - they probably grew on the top and could not produce adequate roots for to keep a proper balance and prevent dessication (drying out). Rose of Sharon are super hardy but they do have long tap-roots. Also the tap root tends to escape, and they could have soaked up any chemical used to wash or paint the house or the patio they sit on. I think they became desiccated due to lack of root room (for their tap root) or they were poisoned by some chemical that became available on the surface below the pot - I used to clean lots of things on my patio, but when things nearby will absorb the run-off, you need to move to less -sensitive quarters for that. I have a Bozai Rose of Sharon and the tap escapes each year while it sits in the beds outside in it's pot - but I cut the top back severly each time I take it up and have to cut that tap root back, so it has a chance to work. They are also REALLY hardy - treat them like figs and let they have a chance to revive before writing them off - put them all in the ground and let them think about it for a while with a little mild fertilzer - I bet they recover in a few months.
Reply:I would take the dead one to a local nursery. I did that with some leaves from my butterfly bush, and the people there were able to look at it and tell me what the problem was. They also gave me a solution.

Hope that helps...

Sorry about your roses...
Reply:I am in agreement with a-mac. Be sure to put it in an enclosed bag so as not to infect the nursery's plants.
Reply:What did the soil look like in the pot you dug up?

Bone dry? no water

Squishy rotten smelling? too much water, root rot.

Rose of Sharon prefer being planted in the ground, full sun, cuttings root in water, and thrive on neglect.

How Can I Terminate a Rose of Sharon Bush?

We have several Rose of Sharon bushes that have taken over other shubs in our yard. The "seedings" are everywhere! What is the best way to eliminate these beautfiul, but uncontrollable flowers from our yard? We have tried digging them up but they keep coming back the following Spring. (sigh) Thanks for your help.

How Can I Terminate a Rose of Sharon Bush?
The Rose of Sharon (aka Hardy Hibiscus) is a prolific seed dropper. The only way to eliminate the seedlings is remove the seeds from the mother. I suggest careful deadhedding - so to speak - of all seed heads prior to them drying and dropping. You'll have to keep on it, since the flowers mature at a varying rate (ergo the seeds mature at a varying rate). Or you could try an axe to the mother, but that would be such a shame ....
Reply:Ortho's vegetation killer (paraquat or diquat).
Reply:Two are three treatments of Roundup. Use a paint brush so you do not spray anything else. Wait for it to start turning burn before you till.
Reply:Dig up some seedlings and send them to me! =)

I have been planting Rose of Sharon bushes in my yard.?

The rose of Sharon bushes I have planted are now "sprouting:" new bushes over my grass. I have probably 100 mini bushes about 2in. tall and growing. I need to get rid of them. I can not dig up 100 little bushes.

I used weed killer that will not kill the grass but to no avail.

Help!! Any ideas?? Thanks !!

I have been planting Rose of Sharon bushes in my yard.?
If you just keep mowing them down they will eventually die out. They need the top above ground to keep growing. I had the same

problem with tiger lillies. They grow so fast. The man cuts my

grass, and mowes the lillies down and the next day they are several inches tall. They are starting to die out now.
Reply:Keep them mowed down.
Reply:i have the same problem and you have to pull them out one at a time, I am cutting down my rose of sharon's because they are a pain in my butt
Reply:try and join the Yahoo group gardenmessenger they have members from all over the world and also a great web-site at http://www.gardenmessenger.net/groups.ht...
Reply:you will have to pull them up by hand

I have a budding Rose of Sharon that I want to transplant and also use the cuttings.?

I want to trim and transplant two Rose of Sharon bushes and I would like to know how to root the cuttings when I trim the bushes back to transplant.

Do you have to use a product that makes roots from the buds?

I have a budding Rose of Sharon that I want to transplant and also use the cuttings.?
for cuttings-always cut after buds, all i do is place cuttings in a

vase of water, not to much maybe two inches of water and wait,

refill water on occassion. it takes awhile but you should see little roots forming in 3-4 weeks. transplant bush in larger hole or pot.

trim off any dead first. don't water to much, they like to be left alone for the most part.
Reply:I think your answer was positively brilliant! If it were up to me I'd give you a thousand points!

Again thanks Report It

Reply:If it's budding, you may be too late this season. Get to it asap!! Transplanting is best done during dormant season.

As for getting the cuttings to root........hmmmm. That would be a hardwood cutting and would require rooting hormone and a propagation bed.....high humidity, light, soil warmth, etc. Of course the stems would have to be viable first, that is not dessicated from the winter. Not high on my list for success, but what the heck you'd throw the stems out anyway!
